Happy Holidays from Jan D'Atri!

Greetings!

Happy 2013 I just wanted to take a moment to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Holidays and the best year ever just around the bend.

Looking back at 2012, I had a lot of fun doing what I love best--cooking, laughing, working hard and connecting with all of you!
Let's keep the relationship going in 2013!

I love you all!

New Years parties and family togetherness around the kitchen table are some of the best treasured memories at this time of year. I would love to hear about your traditional recipes and those "must-have" holiday servings on your family table.  Please send them! You never know, they might be featured in a future column!
Feeding Time
My Shadow at Feeding Time

I have had a wonderful year and been so busy with projects and cooking, it's impossible to fill you in as I go, so I thought I'd end the year with a great recap of everything we have going on in our neck of the woods. I'm sharing some behind the scenes pictures of all we had going on, on the TV, radio and on my website, as well as some great fun times we had on location around the valley.

I am also sharing pictures of some easy and fun crafts I did this year as well as Momma and I book signing, and some special holiday recipes.  It's chocka-block this time around!

Our girls chickie eggs!
In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy my "Home on the Range" with the dogs, chickens and my other furry babies! This year we adopted "Buddy" a Coydog. He is such a love bug and SO spoiled!  He enjoys life with Cassie, our crazy cowgirl who is equally spoiled and loved, as you can see! As usual, we have become accustomed to the eggs our chickens provide for us. There is nothing like real farm fresh eggs for cooking and I just love the variety of colors. Aren't they pretty?!

It's been a great year, and I just want to take a moment to thank all of you for sharing your recipes and memories with me, and responding in so many ways to my column, radio show and TV segments.  We get so many emails these days that we can't always respond to all of them, so please keep checking my website at www.jandatri.com for the latest news, recipes and information.

Happy New Year!

Some of my holiday recipes

Blintz Casserole
Blintz casserole It's a Jewish delight enjoyed on many traditional holidays that has been embraced by mainstream America, especially for Sunday brunch or any special occasion. Cheese Blintzes are wonderful light and airy crepe-like pancakes filled with a mixture of sweetened cottage cheese, farmer's cheese or both. It's traditionally topped with a blueberry sauce or dollop of sour cream... Read more...

Donna's English Toffee
English Toffee We ate it only once a year during the holidays, and every time I bit into an Almond Roca, I remember thinking there wasn't anything on earth as delicious as this! That's probably one of the reasons I've always been so timid about making homemade English Toffee. If I couldn't make it just like the quintessential bites of Roca, I wouldn't even try... Barb's Pineapple Side Dish
Barb's Pineapple Side Dish The holidays are gone, but not forgotten are those special dishes that were the surprise hit at the holiday table. This recipe was introduced to my family at Thanksgiving, and we begged for a second showing by its creator for our Christmas celebration! The reaction was the same by everyone at the table-I need this recipe! That makes it worthy of sharing it with you.

My dear friend Barbara Corirossi has given us a couple of gems in the past year. Her Barbara Ann Tea Cookies and the St. Bernard Coffee Cake were featured here in previous columns. When she showed up this Thanksgiving with something called Pineapple Dressing, we had no idea what to expect, never having heard of it before. Let me try to describe it... Read More...

Ciabatta Brie and Cranberry Appetizer

Ciabatta Brie and Cranberry Appetizer Her name is Laverne. She has caused Amy and Matt Wakser a lot of grief over the years. She's disrupted events like New Year's Eve celebrations and has undoubtedly caused Amy and Matt many, many a sleepless nights.

I guess you could say that Laverne is just really high maintenance.

But the Wakser's would also tell you that if it weren't for Laverne, there would be no Arizona Bread Company because she's the one that brought the dough... Read More...

Momma's Minestrone Soup

Momma's Minestrone Soup I came across an article on a natural news website recently about Victory Gardens. It said that during World War 11, 20 million family gardens were producing 8 million tons of food that helped provide nourishment needed by soldiers to keep them fighting strong. The article stated that Victory Gardens also helped keep the price of food low so the War Department would have more money to spend on military needs. The article concluded that today Victory Gardens have made a huge comeback, and this time we are fighting the battle to live longer, healthier lives... Read More...

The Rescued Recipe Process

I am often asked about my process and how my recipes are written.  We get so many emails and messages that it's sometimes difficult to reply to them all, so I put together a little message to give you some insight on how I choose which recipes I feature.  Read it here.  Hope it helps!  Enjoy!
