Happy Holidays from Acadia Veterinary Clinic!
We would like to take this time to wish you a warm and joyous holiday!

This year has been full of changes and we have a lot to share with you as 2012 now comes to a close.

Our long awaited '2013 Pets of Acadia Veterinary Clinic' Calendars are expected to arrive after Christmas! We had an amazing number of pets submitted into the Calendar this year and, because we decided to use them ALL, there will be two sets of Calendars for you to pick from. The thumbnails on the back of each calendar will indicate which one you will find your pet in. A mass email will be sent out to everyone who submitted a photo of their pet once the Calendars are ready to be picked up.

It is with much sadness that we bid farewell to Dr.Corrigan who has decided to retire from her career in Veterinary Medical Practice to continue her education in Epidemiology. Dr.Corrigan has been a key part of the Acadia family since 2004 and will be missed by all. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors!

We would like to honor the memory of all the animals we've had the pleasure of caring for in 2012 who will not be with us in the new year. Each one has touched our hearts and we will miss them dearly. A pet memorials page is in the process of being added to our website. If you would like to send us a photo of your beloved pets, along with a written memory or bio, we will add them to this page.

Holiday Health Hazards

As we celebrate the holidays,we would like to remind you of the dangerous and potentially life threatening foods, decor and plants that may be around your home at this time of year.

Click here to learn more about protecting your pet this Holiday Season.

  • Tinsel and holiday ornaments - Can cause intestinal blockage when swallowed.
  • Holly, mistletoe, lilies, and Japanese yew - Highly toxic. We recommend inspecting bouquets brought in by holiday guests. Even the water sitting in the vase of these plants is thought to be poisonous! Christmas tree water is another danger to pets and should be covered.
  • Grapes, raisins and currants (e.g., fruitcake!) - Can result in kidney failure in dogs.
  • Chocolate - We all know the dangers surrounding chocolate and pets, but it is worth bringing up again. Dark chocolate is worse for your pets, but any type of chocolate ingested in large quantities can be toxic.
Some general symptoms to watch for are: abnormal excitability, nausea, tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and seizures. Please keep an eye on your pets during the holidays and call our office if you witness any signs of poisoning in your animals.

Just a reminder, our clinic will be closed on Christmas Day (Tuesday December 25th) as well as the afternoon of Monday December 24th. Dr.Wickstrom will in be the only member of our in in on Boxing day (December 26th) so that she may tend to post-Christmas emergencies.

 Pet Dollars

You may have heard about our 'Pet Dollars" by now. If not, you're really going to enjoy this new program! Between now and January 31st, we will be awarding you with two Pet Dollars in appreciation of your patronage. One will be used for your present appointment, which means a smaller bill for you, and the other will be given to you to share with a friend or family member so that they can receive the same discount on services at the practice.
