Coming in January:
Denver Moves: Transit
Community Workshops
|
|
The team will be back out in the community in January to gather feedback on our recommended improvements to corridors throughout Denver. We’ll share ideas about which corridors are right for high capacity transit (like bus rapid transit or rail) and which are ready for transit priority features to improve speed and reliability. You will also be able to share your feedback on these topics as well as access and connections improvements, amenities at stops and stations, and a Frequent Transit Network.
- North Denver: Hiawatha Davis Jr. Rec Center – January 17
- Southwest Denver: Harvey Park Rec Center – January 18
- Northwest Denver: Scheitler Rec Center – January 23
- Southeast Denver: Thomas Jefferson High School – January 24 (joint open house with the Hampden Corridor Study)
- Far Northeast Denver: Evie Garrett Dennis Student Union – January 30 (NPI Far Northeast Area Plan Resource Fair)

What We've Heard: Major Transit Corridors
|
|
This fall, the
Denver Moves: Transit team identified
19 corridors (PDF) for proposed for major transit capital investment (e.g., rail, bus rapid transit, etc.) based on stakeholder input and analysis.
The team attended several community events and posted an online survey asking the community which of these corridors should be a top priority for Denver. We received over 1,000 responses – with highest overall votes for Colfax Avenue, Colorado Boulevard, Federal Boulevard, Broadway/Lincoln, and Speer Boulevard/Leetsdale Drive.
Since then, the team has further analyzed the 19 corridors to identify level of improvements. The recommended improvements will be available for feedback during the community open houses and online survey in January.

Project Task Force in Action
|
|
Earlier this month, the
Denver Moves: Transit Task Force, made up of 28 community leaders, convened for their 9
th meeting. The Task Force was given a first look and provided feedback on the Proposed Transit Priority Corridors for Capital Investment, proposed Frequent Transit Network, as well as brainstormed ideas for outreach in January. The Task Force will convene one more time in February, focusing on proposed recommendations, before the draft plan is released to the public in spring 2018.
We asked Task Force members about the plan development process to-date and the importance of the plan – here’s what they had to say:
|
|
It's been exciting to see the transit plan take shape and the priority corridors stand out through all of the lenses we applied. I continue to be struck by the dynamic benefits that reliable frequent transit options can provide. Great transit supports economic mobility, lessens environmental impacts, reduces congestion and commute times, is a powerful tool to improve our quality of life.
– Piep van Heuven, Northeast Denver Neighborhood Area Representative

Representing Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation’s Transportation Committee on the Task Force, I have been focused on ensuring this important citywide plan reflects Denver neighborhoods’ call for a citywide enhanced, frequent, rapid, understandable and attractive public transit system that a much higher proportion of residents will choose to use. Bringing residents together with the nation’s top transit experts over the last year, the Denver Moves: Transit effort now has draft recommendations that will be reviewed with the citywide community, and they’re very exiting — exactly what our INC Transportation Platform asked for. As the community reviews and refines the draft plan in the coming months, we will need to ensure that it aligns with Blueprint Denver and neighborhood plans, and that we develop a strategy to make the vision into reality.
– Joel Noble, Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Transportation
Committee Co-Chair
