Season's Greetings from
Franklin-McKinley School District

Dear Franklin-McKinley Parents and Guardians,

This winter season, our students, staff, and community partners have demonstrated a remarkable spirit of service. They’ve donated care packages to homeless youth, hosted toy drives for families in need, and given their time to numerous charitable causes and organizations.

As the Superintendent of Schools, I am humbled by the generosity and benevolent efforts that are visible throughout Franklin-McKinley School District (FMSD). We offer our community many gifts and talents not only during the holiday season, but throughout the course of the year. From teachers in the classroom, bus drivers making sure children get to school on time, to parents creating a home environment that fosters learning, our collective efforts to raise our youth are filled with dedication and passion for a brighter future.

2016 is coming to a close and I want to thank all Franklin-McKinley parents and guardians for entrusting us with your most precious gift, your children. On behalf of the Franklin-McKinley School District family to yours, we wish you a happy winter break.

Sincerely,

Juan Cruz                                                                                                            Superintendent of Schools

How to Prevent a Winter  Learning Loss?

Winter break is just around the corner -- it starts on December 16 in the Franklin-McKinley School District.

That means that kids will be at home or traveling for 3 weeks, far away from teachers, classrooms and textbooks. So should parents worry about keeping their children engaged in learning?

Over summer break, kids’ brains can lose what they've learned over the previous school year, a phenomenon researchers dub the "summer slide."

But what about chilling out in winter?
