The Hepatitis B Foundation applauds FDA Approval of a new hepatitis B vaccine, HEPLISAV-B, which is the first new hepatitis B vaccine in more than 25 years! The current three dose vaccine is given over a six month schedule and provides lifetime protection against hepatitis B. The new-two dose vaccine provides the same lifetime protection, but in just one month.

December's featured videoshares Carolyn's story. Carolyn suspected something was going on when her mother told her that her father was "just tired, he needs to work less." She flew to visit her parents in Hawaii and learned that he was dying of liver cancer, the result of chronic hepatitis B. Carolyn regrets how quickly her father's health deteriorated, and yet she cherishes the time they spent together in the hospital. She recognizes that the experience helped her find compassion for her patients, in her own work as a nurse.
During 2017, we are highlighting a unique patient story each month. Our #justB Storytelling Campaign is a national effort to bring individuals affected by hepatitis B to share their stories to shed light on this serious disease, decrease stigma, discrimination, and promote the importance of testing and treatment for hepatitis B. If you want to host a screening of the videos, we can help! It is a great way to spread the word and engage your local communities! Email Catherine.Freeland@hepb.org.
