HOLIDAY MUSIC NEWSLETTER
I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season and a wonderful upcoming New Year. So many great and loving experiences from this past year and I'm very excited about what 2017 has to offer for all of us!!!
Too many blessings to list from 2016, but I wanted to share some of the most recent. I had the honor to dress up as Santa Claus and perform on a Steinway concert grand piano (compliments of Hall Piano)  on several occasions. The most moving was for the beautiful children and staff at Children's Hospital. I hope this becomes an annual tradition. Santa also performed at Hall Piano's
"Santa and a Steinway" event and then for a special Christmas choir concert for the retirement community at the Lambeth House. Such uplifting experiences.  I'm so thankful to all those behind the scenes that made these events happen. Thank you for this gift and support in helping to bring healing music to those who are in most need of inspiration and healing. Please continue to support people in need with music and also, please continue to support live music and living artists. #musicheals

UBUNTU
"One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu-the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality-Ubuntu-you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity."
Nelson Mandela

Stay tuned for our
UBUNTU

with the
Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans and many other local sponsors, on our upcoming "Nourish" project.

"A Movement for New Orleans Homeless and Underserved"

One of the central tenets of Judaism is the value of tikkun olam, which roughly translates to a mandate that we must all do our part to repair our world and make it a better place. The Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans believes strongly in that ethic, and has collaborated with Matt Lemmler  to create a rotating series of community-wide events called Nourish: A Movement for New Orleans' Homeless and Underserved. Our goal is to bring together the people of New Orleans, putting aside the many struggles this segment of our community faces on a regular basis, and to help our community's underprivileged.
Nourish's kickoff event will take place on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at UNITY's Sacred Heart Apartments. These apartments, located in Mid-City, were retrofitted more than two years ago to help homeless residents of New Orleans-including veterans-transition into a safe and structured housing environment. Leading up to the event, we're leading a community-wide drive to collect cleaning supplies and household items. Volunteers from all over the Greater New Orleans community will provide and host a Sunday jazz brunch for Sacred Heart residents, while Matt Lemmler & NOLAJazzRevival will perform lively jazz music.

If you're still holiday shopping or thinking of purchasing holiday/birthday gifts this season or in the New Year, might I suggest a few healing music purchases? Recently, Kevin Clark released his inspirational CD,  "The Awakening of Calm" or if you're in the mood for a Crazy Cool Christmas try Kermit Ruffins' swingin' "Have a Crazy Cool Christmas" . Both CD's will put you in the Spirit and are Healing. I was honored to record piano and arrange music on both of these great New Orleans' productions. Thank you, Kevin, Kermit (All Aboard!!) and Basin Street Records !

Here's what Offbeat magazine says about "The Awakening of Calm"
"New Orleans musicians and New Age music are an unlikely mix. But trumpeter Kevin Clark gave his melodies to jazz pianist Matt Lemmler  to reconfigure; the result is the instrumental backdrop for a narration of poems by Walt Whitman, Rumi, Ralph Waldo Emerson and others. If you like New Age concepts and slow music to meditate to (as I do), you will enjoy this. Every aspect of the CD is well-executed. Any project that gets these scribes' words out there in the ether is a worthwhile endeavor; a nice example of what New Orleans musicians can accomplish when they want to stretch." Tom McDermott

Also, don't forget about NOLAJazzRevival's new "UBUNTU" CD which features an inspirational and patriotic arrangement of
"Colors of the Wind/Theme from M*A*S*H/Oh Susanna/My Country 'tis of Thee/America the Beautiful/Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"  and John Mahoney's beautiful arrangement of Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" featuring over 300 voices singing with the NOLAJazzRevival.
This CD is truly a musical UBUNTU between our musical children and our professional New Orleans jazz artists.
