Season's greetings to you and yours!

There has been a lot going on at Reading Connections and we want to take this opportunity to tell you how much we appreciate your continued support.

Last fiscal year we served about 845 adult literacy students, 51% of whom advanced at least one literacy level. Another 18% of our students made significant progress within their literacy level. Our 272 dedicated volunteer tutors provided more than 18,000 hours of instruction.

This year we continue to provide individualized literacy services to adults in Guilford County, along with families in our Family Literacy Program and incarcerated men in the Greensboro Detention Center. We have added a new initiative to prepare our students for careers and higher education through our Workforce Development program. We have partnered with Industries of the Blind to prepare ESOL students for careers in sewing. We continue to find new ways to serve our community and reach our goal of 100% literacy in Guilford County.

It is only through your support that we are able to positively impact our community. We currently have over 75 students waiting to work with a tutor so we are in desperate need for more volunteers. Please continue to encourage your friends and colleagues to become literacy tutors. Check our website calendar for new tutor training dates. If you would like us to speak to your group about volunteer opportunities, please email us or call the office at (336) 230-2223.

We hope that as you make your holiday giving decisions, you will consider a donation to Reading Connections. Your generosity can directly impact the lives of adults and families in Guilford County by helping our students improve their literacy skills so they can find a job, read to their children, participate more fully in our community, or reach any other goal they set for themselves.

We wish you a very happy holiday filled with joy and peace.

With much gratitude,
Jennifer Gore
