A Message from CEO, Mike Balsamo

BIA of Southern California (BIASC) wrapped up the year by installing the new board of Directors for each Chapter.

I would like to congratulate Regional and Chapter Presidents for stepping into leadership: Regional BIASC President, Peter Vanek, Meritage Homes; Orange County Chapter President, Phil Bodem, Taylor Morrison; Baldy View Chapter President, Ali Sahabi, Optimum Group, LLC; Riverside County Chapter President, Jeff Clemens, Lennar Homes; and Los Angeles/Ventura County Chapter President, Randy Johnson, Brookfield Residential.

We kicked off the celebration of the holiday season with its members during its BIASC Greater Sales and Marketing Council (GSMC) Gives Back event on November 30th. All proceeds for the event resulted in the sponsoring of two families in need through the Families Forward organization.

The Riverside County Chapter also held its Annual Holiday LAC Luncheon on the 7th, and the Baldy View and Orange County Chapters (in association with Orange County Business Council, OCBC) held amazing holiday parties on the 8th. As we approach the new year I ask that you continue attending BIASC's amazing regional and chapter events to network, connect, and grow your business.

During this joyous time of year, ideally, we endeavor to slow down the pace of our lives, share life's blessings with our families and express gratitude for our friendships. Speaking on behalf of your BIASC staff, we truly love our mission of serving the Southern California home building community and are thankful for all our members and their volunteerism. We had an outstanding year for our organization this year. In 2017, we will seek to bring member value to everything we do and we look forward to your personal participation and creativity in that process. As a reminder, our BIASC Regional and Chapter offices will be closed from December 23rd, 2016 through January 2nd, 2017 and will resume January 3rd, 2017. Happy Holidays and our best wishes for a wonderful New Year!

BIASC Congratulates Pam Ackrich On 30 Years with the BIA
The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Inc. (BIASC) would like to congratulate Labor Director, Pam Ackrich, on her 30 years with the BIA.

Pam's building industry experience, prior to the BIA, was spent in the Assistant Labor Director position for the Associated General Contractors for 8 years. She then began work as BIASC's Labor Director in December of 1986.

As BIASC's Labor Director, Pam negotiates various construction trade union agreements on behalf of the organization's union contractor members.

BIAOC Names Steven LaMotte as the New Chapter Executive Officer

The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Inc. is pleased to announce Steven LaMotte as the new Executive Officer for the Orange County Chapter, effective November 21, 2016.

LaMotte, whose previous role with the BIAOC was Director of Government Affairs, has more than 8 years of experience in political and government affairs, serving as senior staff to several members of the California State Assembly prior to joining the BIAOC.

The California Homebuilding Foundation (CHF) Announces Four New Board of Trustees
Four new members have been appointed to the California Homebuilding Foundation (CHF) Board of Trustees, each beginning a three-year term.

The Sacramento-based Foundation's newest trustees are: Alan Boudreau, Founder and President for Boudreau Pipeline Corporation, Corona, CA; Gary Ryness, Chairman for The Ryness Company, Danville, CA; Laura Ulanoski, Vice President, Operations for the BIASC Orange County Chapter; and Donald Babbitt, Director of Forward Planning for Warmington Residential, Pleasanton, CA.

CHF's 2016 chair, Joan Marcus-Colvin, Chief Marketing Officer for The New Home Company, says, "Our Foundation is extremely pleased to welcome these new trustees to our board. They bring their experience and leadership and more importantly, highlight their desire to serve and give back to our industry."

Peninsula Publishing Shares Their Experience as Members of BIASC
The BIASC's staff and chapter representatives loves to engage and hear feedback from its members.  Recently one of BIASC's long-time members has shared their own experience about being involved with the organization.
Nick Slevin, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Peninsula Publishing Inc., has shared his own experience as a 26-year-member of BIASC in the December 2016 issue of Builder and Developer Magazine.
On a subject near and dear to me personally, I would like to use this forum to thank the team at our local Building Industry Association of Southern California, where we have been members these past 26 years.
