Staying Safe and Healthy during the Holidays
(re-posted from Holiday Happenings)
Wash hands often to help prevent the spread of germs.
Give yourself a break if you feel stressed out, overwhelmed, or tired.
Don't drink and drive or let others drink and drive.
Monitor children during Family Gatherings.
Keep potentially dangerous toys, holiday decorations, and other objects out of children's reach.
Practice fire safety.
Most residential fires occur during the winter months, so don't leave fireplaces, space heaters, food cooking on stoves, or candles unattended.
Prepare food safely.
Wash hands and surfaces often, avoid cross-contamination, and refrigerate foods promptly.
Eat healthy, stay active.
It is easy to over eat this time of year, so watch your portion sizes and foods high in fat, salt, and sugar.
Be aware of your surrounding when shopping. Also, if deliveries are made to your home, ask for identification before opening the door.
Pets are family too.
Be sure your pets have a warm and dry place out of the weather, with plenty of food and water.
Only tell your closest friends you are going out of town, to keep your home safe.
Lots of goodies this time of year! But try not to snack prior to going to bed, which can disrupt your sleep, especially items with lots of sugar.
