Wishing you a
Happy Holiday Season!
Houston Ground Angels
Management Review December 2016
From Tony Castiglie, Vice President & Treasurer

November proved to be a fairly good month.  Although the 193 missions we ran was satisfactory, we do not have enough volunteers to satisfy all the request we have for services.  Our fulfillment rate for the year is 91%, under our stated goal of 95%.  The word about our organization continues to spread & many patient requests are coming following contacts with the American Cancer Society & M.D. Anderson Social workers.  Please do what you can to encourage others to join our ranks.
Our annual total is 2,332 & keeps us on track to hit our goal of 2,500 for the year.  Thus far during 2016, 96 volunteers have run missions.  The leaders - Charles Whitworth (229), Paulette Blackburn (180), Richard Chidlow (167), Charles Gibson (115) & Mary Hutto (79).   Thanks to all who run missions.
Robinson Chukwu joined us as a new volunteer during November.  Robinson lives in the Richmond area & has already run several missions. Welcome aboard!
The Christmas Season is upon us.  Over 50 people have already signed up to attend our Christmas party at Masraff's Restaurant on Thursday evening, December 8th & hope to enjoy the company of ever more volunteers.  See you then!
To every volunteer, "Thank You" for being part of this wonderful organization and making it the success that it is.  2016 has been good!

Staying Safe and Healthy during the Holidays
(re-posted from Holiday Happenings)
Wash hands often to help prevent the spread of germs.
Manage stress. Give yourself a break if you feel stressed out, overwhelmed, or tired.
Don't drink and drive or let others drink and drive.
Monitor children during Family Gatherings. Keep potentially dangerous toys, holiday decorations, and other objects out of children's reach.
Practice fire safety. Most residential fires occur during the winter months, so don't leave fireplaces, space heaters, food cooking on stoves, or candles unattended.
Prepare food safely. Wash hands and surfaces often, avoid cross-contamination, and refrigerate foods promptly.
Eat healthy, stay active. It is easy to over eat this time of year, so watch your portion sizes and foods high in fat, salt, and sugar.
Shopping Safety. Be aware of your surrounding when shopping. Also, if deliveries are made to your home, ask for identification before opening the door.
Pets are family too. Be sure your pets have a warm and dry place out of the weather, with plenty of food and water.
Traveling. Only tell your closest friends you are going out of town, to keep your home safe.
Snacking. Lots of goodies this time of year! But try not to snack prior to going to bed, which can disrupt your sleep, especially items with lots of sugar.
