Happy Hounds News
December 2016

It's official, the end of the year is here. The beginning of December brings so much to us all. With the holidays just around the corner and a whole new year creeping up on us, it's panic time! If you have a long day of family outings, a party to host or just want to get the pooch out of the house for a while, call us! Daycare is not only beneficial for your pup, it's a great way to tire him out after an exhausting day of shopping. Likewise, let us know of any changes in daycare schedules during holiday break. Once the snow begins to fall, and it will, be sure to inform us of any last minute snow day cancellations.. or bookings! As you know, rain or snow, 24/7/365, we're always here. Let me tell you, these dogs love nothing more than a good romp with friends in freshly fallen snow.

As most of you know, Wednesdays are our most popular day for daycare. If you need to get your pooch in on a Wednesday, please give us a few days notice as we fill up very quickly. You can also consider setting up a standing reservation for Wednesdays... or any day of the week for that matter. A standing reservation basically means we'll plan to see your pup whatever day(s) each week unless we've been notified otherwise.

On November 30th, we had a surprise visit from Mr. & Mrs. Claus. The pups attending daycare that day were quick to hop in his lap and tell him about their good behavior. Since we all know how good they've been this year, I'm sure Santa Paws is going to be very kinds to all the pups.

Please consider bringing any old dog related items to be donated to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. There's always a dog in need who would love to have a fluffy bed, new or old, and a toy to play with.

Now that the year is almost up, let us know how we're doing by reviewing us on Facebook! If your pup rates us four paws up, what would you rate us?

Sincerely,

Happy Hounds

Meet Gabby

Meet Gabby, a lab mix! Gabby joined the Happy Hounds Family in August 2011 at the age of 1.5 years. Gabby has a few other known alias': Gabs, Gabbers, Gabberdean. Through the day, Gabby's personality transforms to better suit her ever changing mood. Her day begins with happy wiggles and offers of free back scratches to the staff. As much as we deter dogs from jumping on us, Gabby's jumps are a welcomed action. Her years of free back scratches have qualified her as the official unofficial staff masseuse. After her free labor is done, Gabby is ready to strike! She spends the next portion of the day confronting staff with plenty of woo's and ruff's of displeasure. Often refusing to back down until her point has come across. If the staff tries to appease her with pets and comforting words, she's quick to yell over them, demanding better pay for her hard work. Once her dictatorial phase is over and she realizes nothing will change the views of the dog wardens, it's time to let lose and join a game of hockey. Due to Gabby's sassy, demanding nature, she excels as a rufferee. After her tiring job is completed, it's on to nap time. Gabby is a proud founder of the famous Nap Time Shelf. She, along with 2 other dogs, have staked a claim on a shelving unit filled with comfy dog beds and blankets. Plenty of snoozes and pup filled dreams are had until it's time to patrol Puppy Pick-up. Again, due to her demanding nature, she makes for a great parent lookout. The minute someone arrives, she's the first to alert the hounds! Gabby, even if your exceptional work isn't applauded every second of every day as you so wish, please know that your presence and your back scratches are much appreciated.
Adoptable Dogs of the Month
Since it's the season of giving, we're featuring THREE adoptable pups this month. Know someone looking to add a new member to the family? Please share!!

Meet Lucky

Breed: Chihuahua mix
Sex: Male
Date of Birth: 3/26/12
Weight: 17 lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Energy Level: Loves to lounge
Good with children: Adults only
Good with cats: Unknown
Good with dogs: Yes, males and females

Lucky's prior owner kept him in the garage because the bigger dog in the house attacked him, and the cat started spraying when he was introduced to the home. Thankfully, Lucky was surrendered to the rescue so that he could find a home where he would be treated like a king and not only live in the house, but be the center of somebody's universe! Lucky is the type of dog that will be loyal to his person to the end of the earth. Give him a comfy dog bed to sleep in next to your feet, or take him on a walk - he is adaptable and easy to please. Lucky considers himself a big dog because he prefers to walk on his own rather than being picked up ... Mr. Independent! Lucky would thrive in a calm environment where he is incorporated into the daily activity. Single or retired? You would be perfect for him!

Meet Tito

Breed: Pitbull mix
Sex: Male
Date of Birth: 8/4/15
Weight: 53 lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Energy Level: Energetic, but enjoys to lounge too
Good with children: Yes, with children 8-10 years old and up
Good with cats: Unknown
Good with dogs: Yes, males and females

Tito was saved the morning of the day that he was to be euthanized in Calhoun County. He is an amazing, friendly, loving boy that just needs more time for his people to find him and start his next chapter. The volunteers and trainer loved him at Calhoun's shelter, and were thrilled to see him saved. This guy is going to be thrilled when his new family comes to pick him up. He already has manners, has done well with dogs that let him be the boss, loves to go on walks, and constantly has that quintessential happy Pitbull grin on his face. Please give Tito the chance at a happily ever after that we know he deserves.

Meet Buffy

Breed:  American Bulldog mix
Sex:  Female
Date of Birth:  1/16/10
Weight:  75 lbs
Spayed/Neutered:  Yes
Energy Level:  Loves to lounge
Good with children:  Yes, with children of all ages
Good with cats:  No
Good with dogs:  Yes, but selective with dogs

Buffy has been with the rescue since they opened last November but spent several years before that with another rescue. No one can understand why she continues to be overlooked as she is such a GREAT dog. At adoption events, she is always the best behaved dog there but leaves without any potential applications. Without a family of her own, she started to become very sad and withdrawn, and understandably so, as she is ready for her forever home, yet she is still waiting. Buffy was then moved to a foster home for a few months where she continues to thrive in a home environment. Now all she needs is to find her forever home.  Buffy is completely house trained and will not chew on anything other than her own toys. She has excellent manners, knows the commands "sit", "stay", "watch", "wait" and "come". She is an excellent loose leash walker and a big cuddle bug! Buffy loves everyone she meets and is the perfect co-pilot on car rides.
