Happy Hounds News
February 2016

It's that time of year again! Our second annual Valentine's Day party will be held on Friday, February 12th. Be sure to reserve a spot as they may book up quickly. The pups will be paired up with one of their favorite friends and dine on pasta, posing for cute pictures. Our party last year was a huge success. We had a blast throwing the party and were extremely pleased with all the pleasant feedback from parents.

Put on your thinking caps, February 23rd will be the first class of 2016. Our six week classes begin at 6:45pm on Tuesdays. If you're interested in signing up or inquiring for this or future classes, contact Melody Huffer at Animal Learning Systems

Sincerely,

Christine Perez

Dogs of the Month

Meet Dodi, Shih Tzu. Dodi joined the Happy Hounds family in April 2011 at the age of 4. This adorably, sweet dude is quite the cuddle monster. He spends most of his time begging for someone to hug, pet or snuggle him. When boarding, he's eager to find the best spot in bed, plopped on top of a pile of blankets, hoarding them all to himself. One of his favorite things is when Sharon wraps him up in a blanket like a little grrr-rito, as she calls it.

Meet Zeus, a shih poo. Zeus joined the Happy Hounds family in March 2013 at 5 months old. Don't let his small size fool you, this boy is the true MVP of fetch. Zeus prefers hanging out with the larger pups and is small enough to slide under them, stealing the ball without them even knowing. He's one of the few dogs who actually returns the ball! On top of his excellent athletic skills, he's always down for some quality cuddles.

Meet Maddie, a hound mix. Maddie joined the Happy Hounds family in July 2014 at 5 months old. She may have a petite, dainty figure but Maddie knows how to hold her own in wrestle matches. Though she prefers a competitive game of fetch, she never shy's away from a wrestling challenge or a good old fashion game of chase. This girl is always on the go!

Meet Luna, a boxer mix. Luna joined the Happy Hounds family in May 2014 at 9 months old. What a sweet little peanut! Luna is always looking for someone to snuggle, sit with and love on. Luna does enjoy a goofy romp with her best friends, almost any boxer, but she will never ever turn down a chance to be the center of a human's attention.
Puppy Love Valentine's Party

First dates are pawkward. Sometimes you meet a perfect  gentleman or a lovely woman and sometimes, sometimes you meet someone who isn't afraid to be themselves.

Our Valentine's dogs last year were no exception. Some of our pairs hit it off, others ditched on the check and some went to the bathroom and never returned, leaving their date to finish the meal. And of course, we had a few serial daters who were only in it for the food. We will be giving all of your pooches from last year a chance for redemption and anyone else who'd like to join them, possibly show the other dogs what it means to have proper doggy etiquette. Mark your calendars and make your pup a reservation for Friday, February 12th!

National Pet Dental Month
February is National Pet Dental Health Month, so now is the perfect time to call your veterinarian and schedule a dental checkup for your furry family members.

Dental disease is more than just a cosmetic issue, if left untreated, it can lead to devastating effects on your pet's quality of life, including infection, severe pain and even organ damage. With regular oral health maintenance and check-ups, most of these problems can be avoided. Neglecting your pet's teeth and gums can cause chronic pain issues that may even be at the center of certain behavioral problems. The American Veterinary Medical Association reports 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats have some kind of oral disease by the age of 3.

Between regular veterinary examinations, pet owners should look for the warning signs of gum disease such as bad breath, red and swollen gums, yellow-brown crusts of tartar along the gum lines, and bleeding or pain when the gums or mouth are touched. Pets with developing gingivitis and periodontal diseases often paw at their face or mouth frequently, have excessive drool, and may exhibit an unwillingness to eat harder foods.

Some studies suggest that maintaining oral health can add up to five years to your pet's life.

Friendly Reminders
*  When boarding your dog with us, we MUST hav e your dogs updated vaccination records 48 hours BEFORE he/she begin boarding.  If you are traveling abroad, we also will need a local contact in case of emergency.

*  Your dog MUST have a snap "quick release" collar for day care and boarding, with no tags attached. You can keep the snap collar in your Happy Hounds backpack.  If this is not his/her daily collar we will change it out when your dogs arrive at Happy Hounds. This is important for your dogs safety.

*  Be sure to inform us of any changes in contact information; phone numbers, email/home address, emergency contact, etc.

*  If a family member or friend is picking up your pooch from daycare or boarding, you must pre-pay their bill. If it's a last minute decision to have someone else pick your pup up, please give us a call with payment and let us know who we should be expecting.

We'd be more than happy to take any and all plastic bags off of your hands.
