Friends,
It is a true privilege to wake up today in a land that is free. We should never take that freedom for granted. We all appreciate and support those in who have ever worn the uniform...those who fight for our freedom. I know I have felt the prayers and support of my fellow citizens during my times in combat. But on this Independence Day, let's not forget to show our appreciation for our friends and neighbors as well--for those who choose freedom every day. Making that choice is often a battle right here in Southern Arizona. In this era of economic challenge and big government takeover, it takes great courage to stand for freedom and to choose to be free. It's much easier to sit back and assume that someone else will solve the problems. Someone else will pay the bills, make our health decisions, get us a job, or simply send us a check. Those in Washington who think that way simply don't know the Arizona I know. They don't have a clue that I am surrounded today by men and women who understand the cost of freedom and who are willing to make that choice. Contrary to the popular song of the hippy generation, freedom is not just another word for nothing left to lose. Freedom is a choice. And it's worth fighting for. You will soon get to make that choice again during the November election. In fact, you may get your ballot in the mail as early as September. How you vote and who you vote for is a matter of conscience...and freedom. Don't take your vote for granted. Don't leave your freedom up to any lifelong politician who works for some self-entitled leader of either political party. Don't be swayed by rhetoric or some political action committee ad on television. Vote for whoever you believe in your heart will stand for your freedom...for Arizona...for America. Freedom is costly to gain, and it is that easy to lose. Freedom is a choice. Make a good one this November.
Happy Independence Day.
Martha
