July 4, 2017      Finger Lakes Connected
On Tuesday, July 4, the City of Canandaigua will host a parade, food vendors, and entertainment in Kershaw Park, and conclude the community event with with fireworks in the evening.
This year's theme is "This Land I Love" - celebrating the beautiful Canandaigua, Finger Lakes, and those who call it home.  Over 50 organizations will be marching in the parade, including historical groups, local businesses, elected officials, kids' groups, and individuals. Trophies will be awarded to entries that standout in various categories, such as best theme on a float, outstanding musical unit, and community spirit. The parade will begin in the Ontario Street Parking Lot and head down Main Street, continuing from the County Court House to Lakeshore Drive.
Following the parade, a community picnic will be held in Kershaw Park. Food vendors like Barlow's Concessions, Weiner Wagon, Dar's Delights, and KP's Kettle Corn will be in the park serving up picnic favorites from hamburgers and hot dogs to fried dough and ice cream. Later in the evening, the band  Taran will take the stage at the gazebo in Kershaw Park. The band has provided entertainment for the Fourth of July Celebration in Canandaigua in the past, and is delighted to be joining the community again in 2017. The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. over the lake.

Based on a remarkable 1964 aerial picture found at the Canandaigua Daily Messenger, "1964" shows the city's incredible transformation to the present with a tragic and unbelievable 50 plus buildings missing since that picture was taken. Visitors will see that now famous

picture showing all the missing buildings side by side with a 2017 drone replication.
It wouldn't be "1964" without those cultural features of the time. Sit down in the early 60's mini-kitchen
and read 1964 Life, Look and Post magazines at the table. Watch 7 different 1964 videos including a
Wilmer and the Dukes /Arrowhead Lanes tribute, 1964 car and toy commercials, 1964.  Johnson/Goldwater Political ads, Cigarette commercials that will astound your kids and grandkids, the #1 hit tunes of 64 and more. Special Museum hours on Sunday July 9. The museum will be open from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Serge has just spent a small fortune on a painting, a white background patterned with white lines. His longtime friends think he's lost his mind. What begins as a friendly discussion of personal taste rapidly devolves into a scathingly funny all-out war as the guys take off the gloves and share their opinions of art-and each other.  Some adult language.
