Start the New Year by Doing a Good Deed!

The American Red Cross, with the support of KCDC and Kamms Plaza, is hosting a blood drive on Friday, January 2, from 2 to 7 p.m. next to Peace, Love, & Little Donuts, 3786 Rocky River Drive.
Why not start the New Year doing a good deed? In appreciation for making time to give, donors will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt from the American Red Cross while supplies last and a free donut from Peace, Love, and Little Donuts! Donating blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference in the lives of others. To schedule a donation, click here.
 
West Park Pizza Bake-Off to Raise Funds for St. Pat's Church

Who has the best pizza in West Park? Tasters will decide at the West Park Pizza Bake-Off Pre-Super Bowl Game Party on Monday, January 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the St. Pat's Church gym, 4427 Rocky River Drive. Tickets include "all you can eat" pizza and a beverage. Prices vary by each taster's age: $10 for ages 12 and older, $5 for ages 6 to 11, and no charge for kids 5 and younger. There will be "Squares" for the Super Bowl with four winners to be notified after the big game --  and a raffle for a 50" LED HD TV. Tickets for the raffle are $5 for one or $20 for five. Both bake-off and raffle tickets will be available at the door or earlier from Jeff Quinn by calling 216-402-7621 or via e-mail at stpatsbenefit@gmail.com. Are You Ready for the West Park Challenge?

  

It's time for the 8-week fitness challenge offered by West Park Station17015 Lorain Avenue. Formerly the "six-pack challenge," this eighth annual "get into shape" challenge starts on January 19. It features new trainers and boot camp classes -- and over $3,000 in prizes, including $500 to each overall male and female winners.   

 

The $125 entry fee includes the following:

  • Three boot camp classes a week taught by Certified Trainers
  • A two-month membership to the West Park YMCA
  • Fitness classes by the YMCA for no charge: open gym, aquatic classes, basketball pick-up games, kick boxing, and more
  • Discount at West Park Station on their Lighter Fare menu
  • Nutrition tips

KCDC Renovates Home -- For Sale Soon!

Working with the Cuyahoga County Land Bank, we are renovating a roomy two-story Dutch Colonial home located at 16805 Sedalia Avenue, just east of Rocky River Drive. It will be sold to a qualified buyer who intends to live in the house.

The main floor features a spacious kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, a full dining room, and a large living room. Upstairs are three bedrooms, a sun room, and a full bath. The basement features a recreation room and includes a full bath. Through the sliding door from the kitchen is a large back yard deck, perfect for family gatherings and parties. Here are some of the renovations underway:

Look for Ironwood Cafe to open before the first of the year in the former West Park Panini's spot at 17209 Lorain Avenue on the corner of Rocky River Drive and Lorain Avenue. A newly installed Southern Pride smoker guarantees the kitchen will serve the same succulent barbecue popular at the Westlake location. See a preview of the menu. Neighborhood Connections may be able to help your community group! It is a small grants program designed to assist Cleveland neighborhood groups to strengthen the social network in their communities. Grants range from $500 to $5,000. Any resident-led or community group is eligible to apply, including those that aren't recognized as 501(c)(3) organizations. The next deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Friday, February 13. Click here for the application.
