Letter from the Administrator

At year end, we often reflect on our accomplishments and challenges.  Although the accomplishments in North Smithfield far outweigh the missteps, I still find it difficult to reconcile the constant barrage of bullies who choose to divide the town, rather than unite it. A small, vocal minority would have us believe that this is the worst town in America; they choose to constantly interrogate and ridicule my administration, to create the perception of mistrust. I will not allow them to disparage our town or me. I have not violated any policies, with the town vehicle, or the time sheets that I faithfully fill out. I'm focused on doing my job and doing it well.

The silent majority, who do not come to Council meetings, who don't usually write a letter or make a phone call, because living life takes all their energy, should speak up and let others know that bullies have no place in our community. If that negative energy was spent in a positive manner, imagine what we could achieve!

North Smithfield is ready to take on the future with a fully funded pension account; a Aa2 Bond rating; more current and future planned new businesses than other communities. We are part of a National Park; have a low tax rate; safe neighborhoods; energy -conserving buildings; open space; great schools; the first Police Department in the state to achieve the Rhode Island State Certification; local access to court proceedings in our Municipal Court and the financial turnaround of the town due to the effort of tax and finance departments to name some.

We should all be proud of our town and should look forward to a New and Happy 2016.
Wishing you good times, good cheer, and a memorable new year.
