It's Time To Come Clean
in 2015...

Do You in 2015

By Cathy Harris, Empowerment & Motivational Speaker

Dec. 30, 2014

Too many of us are stuck in places and have not come up with definite plans of action to get unstuck.  As everyone prepare for a comeback from this mini-depression in 2015, my advice is to DO YOU IN 2015.  First you need to come totally clean with your life then figure out what will truly make you happy.

As most of you know through my business, AngelsPress.com, an empowerment and publishing company and as an Empowerment Guru, I often tell my audience to feel free to ask me any questions so that my advice can help them move forward.  A reader recently asked me how could she get national magazines to take her freelance articles.

My response was to DO YOU IN 2015.  Because of the economy, most or many of these national magazines are about to go out of business.  Over the past few years, we have watch the quality of many of these magazines reach an all-time low.  These magazines have always catered to their advertisers who don't always have a positive message.

Essence Magazine is now white-owned and the quality of their articles have really deteriorated.  After 63 years Jet Magazine has gone from print to digital only so why are you trying to get your articles in national magazines when they are struggling to hang on by a thread?

I do believe, however, that every black household need to have a digital and paper subscription to BlackEnterprise.com.

Technology has changed everything and we have not seen anything yet.  Since we now live in a new digital age, national magazines that have not changed their format won't survive.  So therefore, my advice to you is to DO YOU IN 2015

Since you have been gifted or been blessed with the ability to write -- then you have one of the best talents in the world.  Many people won't be able to start a business in this lifetime or express themselves simply because they don't have the ability to put their words on paper.  Not everyone can write especially since that took cursive out of most schools.

Being able to write means you can become a 'voice for the voiceless.'  So get your own audience instead of trying to get the audiences of these national magazines.  There are billions of people in the world so carve out your own niche.

A niche is a place or position suitable or appropriate for a person or thing.  As an Empowerment and Motivational Speaker who continues to conduct extensive research and who has access to a large amount of information, I specialize in 'Self Help' and 'How To' information.

I put this information out to my own audience in the form of articles, books (e-books, paperback books, and audiobooks), newsletters, radio shows -- The Cathy Harris Show, youtube.com postings Cathy Harris TV, teleseminars and soon webinars, and empowerment seminars and workshops at www.CathyHarrisSpeaks.com.

My advice to you is to stop running behind these national networks and create your own network.  With all the social media networks out there -- Facebook.com, Twitter.com, Linkedin.com, Instagram.com, Pinterest.com, Ning.com, Yahoogroups.com, Google hangouts - just to name a few, there are billions of people waiting to get your message so DO YOU IN 2015

At one time I was just as guilty as others.  When I initially became a whistleblower, TheCathyHarrisStory.com, in 1999, and because the media was the best outlet for a whistleblower, I ran behind civil rights leaders to help me keep my story in the media.

I also ran behind media entities to help me tell my story -- until I became a civil rights leader, a freelance writer and a syndicated columnist and started writing my own line of articles to tell my own story.

No one knew my story better than me so it was important that I told my own story initially in my first book in 2001 "Flying While Black: A Whistleblower's Story" which has been revised into two books "The Cathy Harris Story: A Whistleblower's Victorious Journey to Justice" and "The Failure of Homeland In-Security: The Government's Dirty Little Secrets from an Insider" under my own company, AngelsPress.com.

Most people spend their entire lives running behind these national networks which have readers that have literally put their lives on hold.  According to experts, over 95% of people are drifting through life and 5% is making something turn up.  So you need to decide if you will be in the 95% or the 5%.

I am definitely in the 5%.  Get your own audience and get out there and educate people.  Even though I think it's important to form business alliances and strategic partnerships, it's important that you start off by DOING YOU.

Many people are so desperate to be a part of something -- that they get involved in negative networks, for instance, many African Americans join groups dealing with Network and Multi-Level Marketing (aka Pyramid Schemes).

As everyone prepare to make a comeback from this mini-depression, what we need right now is 'everyone on deck.'  Everyone with the abilities to educate, inform and empower need to get off the sidelines or come out of the shadows and create their own empowerment networks.

We need mobile training centers, empowerment institutes, non-fiction book clubs, Let's Read Campaigns, etc. and every home, car, and office must literally become a learning center.

In your home it's imperative that you listen to FREE teleseminars, low-cost webinars, teachings on social networking sites especially on YouTube.com (Cathy Harris TV).

It's estimated that most people especially our youth watch at least 7 to 8 hours of TV everyday.  If you are not looking at discovery channel, animal channel, history channel, financial shows and other empowerment networks on TV -- then there is no reason that your TV should be on.

Every child need to have their own reading devices versus TVs.  Amazon.com, the largest online book publishing website, have tons of FREE e-books.

In your car you need to listen daily to empowerment audiobooks while you drive -- instead of 'booty-shaking' music.  Unlike in the past, there are very few positive radio networks out there and you can't expect the ones that are left to offer good educational shows.  It's never going to happen!

If you work in a workplace and you get 30 minutes to an hour for lunch then sit in your car or another quiet place and read books (e-books, paperbacks, audiobooks), listen to educational shows or youtube.com postings.

Only 3% of Americans have library cards so it's imperative for everyone to get back into the library.  Go to the library at least once or twice a week and find out what your public library has for you in books (ebooks, paperbacks and audiobooks), CDs, DVDs, recycled magazines, newspapers, etc.

Just some of the ways everyone can educate themselves in a new field include -- 2 Year Community Colleges; 4 Year Colleges and Universities; Technical Schools; Adult Education Classes; Online Internet Courses; Correspondence Courses; Unemployment Offices; Small Business Administration (SBA.gov); Small Business Development Centers (SBDC); Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE.org) - just to name a few.

People learn differently but 'self-education' will be key if you plan on turning your life around.  If you are a detail-oriented person then you might do better reading books and other material to learn but if you have a hard time focusing, you will probably do better asking questions and taking notes at community classes, seminars and workshops or even listening to educational radio shows, teleseminars and webinars from your home.

Mainstream media monitors internet radio and other social media networks for their stories so these are great ways to build your own national network.

There is no white horse coming to rescue anyone.  You are the white horse -- so that person in the mirror (Y-O-U) can be your 'best friend' or your 'worst enemy' so don't forget to work on you first.

The goal is to "Change Your Food and Change Your Life."  Because foods affects every area of your life from your mood, to your behavior, to your happiness and your enjoy quality of life -- make sure you are getting your daily dose of good, natural and raw nutrients in your diet while you clean up your environment by going totally natural from head to toe.

Then implement the 12 steps into your life at "Cathy Harris 12 Steps To Wellness" which came directly from my first health book How To Take Control of Your Own Life: A Self-Help Guide to Becoming Healthier Over the Next 30 Days (Series 3)" -- so read that book.

Once you work on you -- everything around you will change.  You will be ready to live a balanced life and your brain will finally be in syn with your body and life will hand you all types of possibilities and opportunities for living a great life.  But first and foremost you have to show up in your own life and take back control of your own life and DO YOU.

How To Reinvent Yourself in 2015

When it comes to reinventing yourself --

look at the possible careers you could be in

if you were not in your current career.

MAKE A LIST OF PRIOR TALENTS

The below are the businesses I could have stepped into if I wasn't a Speaker, Author, Coach.

  • Pocketbook Empire: When I was a young girl I use to crochet purses and sell them. Little did I know that I was a business owner but I had no adult in my life to push me to keep doing this. Today I am the ONLY business owner out of my 8 siblings.
  • Seamstress: In high school I took home economics and for my sewing project, I made a man's tuxedo. But I regret never teaching my two daughters how to sew.
  • Photographer: For years before I fell in love with writing, I was an avid photographer. I always had some type of camera with me everywhere I went and even collected pictures frames. I also took a couple of classes at one time and was really looking at landscape photography. This is why I enjoy nature today.
  • Greeting Card Designer: For years I would disappear in the greeting card section in grocery stores and other stores because of my love for greeting cards. My co-workers would always laugh at me because I always had a stack of greeting cards on hand to hand out in time of joy and grief. They even nick-named me "Ms. Hallmark."
  • Firearms Coach: When I was in the military and when I worked for Customs and Border Protection for over 20 years, I was an expert shot so I could easily become a firearms coach. However, I have always disliked cleaning weapons.
  • Public Relations Expert: When I became a business owner, I read every book in America on Business, Marketing and Public Relations so I could easily become a PR, Marketing or Media Expert but instead -- I just use these skills in my current business.

#1 New Year's Resolution

Put Your Health First!

Don't Go To The Gym...
Do A Detox Program First!

Cathy Harris 12 Steps
To Wellness

TOP NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

  1. Detoxify for the New Year: Start the New Year off with a detoxification program for you and your family. You can do a detox by fasting; engaging in a complete body cleanse for your colon, liver, and kidneys; do a colonic with a naturopathic or holistic healer, etc. Remember 80% of overweight kids will become overweight adults so think about helping them engage in a safe detoxification program. Find out how in my health book "How To Take Control of Your Own Life: A Self-Help Guide to Becoming Healthier Over the Next 30 Days (Series 3)."
  2. Go Organic: Eat fresh, raw and organic foods -- blended, juiced or steamed only especially green foods. The benefits of eating organic foods are these foods don't contain hormones, antibodies, pesticides, steroids, etc. Organic foods cost a little more and will spoil quicker but in the long-run these foods will keep down doctor's visits. Remember 90% of all illnesses and diseases are diet-related.
  3. Read Food Labels: Until you can transition to fresh, raw, and organic foods read food labels and cut out all these ingredients: 1) Sugar, 2) High Fructose Corn Syrup, 3) Saturated Fats, 4) Transfat, 5) Red and Yellow Dye, 6) MSG, etc.
  4. Give Up GMOs: Over 90% of all foods in neighborhood grocery stores contains Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) (also referred to as Genetically Engineered, Genetically Altered, Frankenfoods) which causes food allergies which results in depression and other illnesses. So only buy organic foods from farmer's markets, health and wholefood stores, etc. or grow your foods your ownself or join organic food co-ops. Join my health group on facebook "National Non-GMO Health Movement."
  5. Drink More Water: Commit to drinking more water and drink the right type of water. Only drink alkaline water from health or wholefood stores. If you can't obtain this type of water then only drink distilled or pure/purified water.
  6. Stop Eating Meat: Meat is closely associated with parasites. Parasites comes from undercooked beef or pork. Over 80% of Americans have parasites. Parasites can turn into cancer! Find out how to get rid of parasites in my health book "How To Take Control of Your Own Life: A Self-Help Guide to Becoming Healthier Over the Next 30 Days.
  7. Become a Vegetarian: Many people believe vegetarians do not get enough protein but two of the largest animals in the world, gorillas and elephants, are plant-eaters so that's a myth. You don't need meat to survive or stay healthy.
  8. Give Up Canned Foods: Canned foods contain BPA and too much sodium which is bad for you so transition from canned foods to fresh, organic, raw foods. The only time you should eat canned foods is during a national disaster.
  9. Set Short Range and Long Range Goals: Remember setting goals will motivate you to take action in your life so set 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 or 5 year goals around these three areas: 1) health, 2) family/financial, and 3) career/business. Remember it takes 3 to 4 weeks to form new habits so think about the things you need to change in your life and set realistic and reachable goals.
  10. Create a Vision Board:  Cut and paste pictures and quotes so that you can stay motivated when setting short range and long range goals. Make more than one vision board and place them where you can view them every day.
  11. Meditate Daily:  It's important to meditate daily for at least 15 or 30 minutes or more. You can do this at work by taking lunch and sitting in your car; in bed or somewhere else in your home. You can listen to soft music while you allow your body to fully relax. Remember before you can make anything happen in your life, you have to see or visualize it first -- so mediate daily.
  12. Get Rid of Toxic People: Get rid of toxic, destructive and negative people in your life -- the naysayers, doom and gloom people, the dreambusters, etc. They are everywhere and even in your family. You can't really get rid of family members but you can distance yourself away from them.
  13. Get Another Job:  Get a more fulfilling job. If you are unhappy with your job - you only have 3 choices to make: 1) Transfer to another department even in another city, 2) Go back to school and launch another career, or 3) Start your own business. Learn about your rights in the workplace by reading the "Workplace Survival Guide: How To Fight Discrimination, Whistleblowing and the Workers' Compensation System." You should also read "Discrimination 101: The Complete Guide to Recognizing and Surviving Discrimination in the Workplace" (Volume 1) and (Volume 2). Also read our "Workplace Blog."
  14. Start Your Own Business: Small business ownership is the backbone of this country. Business ownership is the key to true generational wealth. Look at the things that you are really passionate about and use your talents and passion to create a thriving business. Everyone has some type of talent or passion which is of value to others. You can conduct research for a business at libraries, bookstores, google.com and yahoo.com, with business groups, Chambers of Commerce, Small Business Administration (SBA.gov), SCORE.org, etc. Read more in the business book "How To Take Control of Your Own Life: A Self-Help Guide to Starting Your Own Business." Also read our " Business Blog. "
  15. Don't Get Involved with Pyramid Schemes: Stay away from websites or people in the community trying to recruit you for Network or Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) aka "Pyramid Schemes" (Noni-juice, Melaleuca, Primerica, Pre-paid legal, YTB travel, Ameriplan, ACN, Quixtar, Body shapers, etc.). If you have time to get involved with these types of unethical schemes, then you have time to start and build your own business by using your own talents and passions.
  16. Form Business Alliances/Strategic Partnerships/Co-Ops: To move your business to the next level form business alliances, strategic partnerships or business co-ops with other ethical businesses. It's important to be a part of business networks so that you can grow your business by brainstorming with other businesses especially legal, financial and marketing experts so seek these individuals out today.
  17. Stop Looking at So Much T.V. and Read More Books: It's estimated that many families watch at least 6 to 7 hours of television daily. Could this be why the obesity rate is at an epidemic level? Are we dumbing down our families? If you watch T.V. at least watch educational shows such as Animal Channel, Discovery Channel, Financial Shows, etc. Read our low-cost empowerment books and articles at Angels Press www.AngelsPress.com.
  18. Find at Least One or More Activism Group that You Can Join: Join the NAACP.org, Rainbow PUSH.org, ACLU.org, NationalActionNetwork.net or another activism group and get on their mailing list. These groups can be lifesavers in times of any type of crisis with your family. They know where all the community resources (food pantries, help with bills, etc.) are located. Learn how to put more money in your pocket by reading "Recession Survival Guide: How To Get Back Into the Driver's Seat."
  19. Get The People You Love on the Information Highway: Are you sick of those around you being uninformed on issues relevant to them? Information is 'King' and 'Knowledge is Power' so help those that you love get on the information highway. Subscribe your family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues to our mailing list at www.CathyHarrisSpeaks.com or www.AngelsPress.com.
  20. Support the Black Press: Read black community newspapers and support them by subscribing, volunteering, and sending donations. Also support black radio and t.v. including internet radio. Listen to "The Cathy Harris Show."
