Meet Mayra!
Mayra Camarillo, LAYN's Director of Administration, is LAYN's longest consistently employed staff member. She handles all matters related to human resources and payroll, and does many things to keep things operating smoothly!
How long have you worked at LAYN?
It will be 11 years in December.
What do you enjoy most about working at LAYN?
The youth population that we serve.
What is your fondest memory about working at LAYN?
When youth have returned and talked to me about how LAYN has helped them out through their difficulties and to know that you were a part of that. Also, when you are able to connect to those youth that perhaps are closed off and do not trust anybody. It's very rewarding when a youth stabilizes and chooses to stay in a safe environment at LAYN.
When you're not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Outdoor activities with my four kids, read.
What is something you know about LAYN that most would not know?
Our first logo was based on the three pillar rocks from the Zen tradition, which represent teaching, practice, and enlightenment. Also, our administrative offices were located at the Gower emergency shelter, with all the administrative staff housed there.

Selfless LA Selfless LA is a brand new non-profit organization which holds events involving art, fashion, music and more to raise awareness and funds for other local nonprofits and grassroots organizations. Their 1st event, Spring Into
Life, was held on May 12th, 2012. LAYN was a grateful recipient of 60% of the proceeds. Our youth pitched in
too, creating awesome tile art on tiles provided by Selfless LA. The Los Angeles Youth Network received a $900
contribution from this affair! Congratulations Selfless LA! To keep up with upcoming events, please visit https://

TART RestaurantTart Restaurant of Los Angeles has helped us celebrate birthdays, special occasions and resident recognition by
catering prepared meals to our shelter for many months. Thank you Tart for helping us celebrate the great things
in life! We highly suggest their fired chicken. Oh, and did we mention they only serve grass-fed meats? |
The Second City
For the past two years, the hilarious folks at Second City Hollywood have held 24-hour improv events benefiting the Los Angeles Youth Network. Ten improvisers, joined by our own youth and a lot of laughter, took the stage to
help raise funds. The Second City raised over $10,000 for LAYN and generously contributed a matching donation
for a total of over $20,000. Not only are they funny and talented, but also very generous. Thank you Second City!
