Tomorrow is UIL Competition Day! The Spelling, Ready Writing and Creative Writing Teams competed on Wednesday. Everyone else will be competing tomorrow. Please remember that students will need to be picked up at the Puster Elementary Cafeteria. Thank you for allowing your kiddos to participate in this event!
Please continue to encourage new neighbors to register their children for next year. Early registration helps us prepare for the upcoming year!

Reminder!
The 2nd Grade Field Trip to the Dallas Museum of Art is Tuesday, April 25th.
Admittance is FREE. Students will leave Hart at 9:40 a.m. and should be dressed appropriately. The Dallas Museum of Art
will not allow jeans
and suggests dresses or skirts, nice capris or slacks, and safe shoes for girls. Slacks / pants and a golf style shirt, or button up shirt and safe shoes for boys.
New! Did you forget to order your yearbook?
If so, Wednesday, April 26th, from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. PTA will be selling yearbooks for $30 (cash or check only). The office will not be able to give change. Please bring exactly $30.

This Month - LISD Legacy Reads - Walk a Mile in My Shoes
This is a district wide reading experience that will foster and promote a community of readers.
The goal is to encourage empathy, perspective taking, and acceptance by prompting Leopards to read books,both fiction and nonfiction, about people who are different from themselves.
By immersing ourselves in the stories of others, we can better understand the paths they choose to follow and experience what it means to "
WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES
."
This is our theme for this year's Legacy Read at the elementary schools throughout the month of April.
Each campus will be collecting NEW socks for ACO and USED running shoes to recycle through Run-On.
This can be a creative, fun and meaningful Family Project.
Displays will be placed in the library.

Important! Dismissal changes- Dismissal changes must be made by 2:00 p.m. daily. Changes are delivered to classrooms at this time. Please send dismissal change requests by email to [email protected] and [email protected] (both in case we have staff in meetings or out that day). We appreciate your help in getting your kiddos home safely.
Important! Absences - Attendance is recorded at 10:00 a.m. daily. If your student will not be attending school due to illness or absence, please send an email to their teacher, and to the office staff [email protected] and [email protected]. It is important that the office staff and the teacher are notified in the event that we have an absence or a substitute teacher working that day. Thank you.

Message from the Nurse
NEW! ILLNESS
Currently, we are seeing a rise in strep throat. Some students are not experiencing typical symptoms of strep throat, such as fever and sore throat, some are only complaining of a headache and/or stomach ache.
We are also seeing a virus (kiddos are testing negative for flu) that is presenting with fever, cough, sore throat, nausea/vomiting, lack of appetite, and lack of energy
.
Not all are experiencing all of these symptoms. There is a stomach virus going around whose most predominate symptoms are nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, and headache. Some symptoms are lasting up to a few days, kids seem to be feeling better and then symptoms reappear.
We are also seeing many allergy related symptoms due to the rise in pollen levels and grass levels.
Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help protect others.
The most effective way to protect ourselves for coming in contact with bacteria and viruses are:
- Frequent hand washing with soap and water, or use alcohol-based hand rubs containing at least 60 percent alcohol, when soap and water aren't available.
- Avoid direct contact with body fluids of people who are obviously sick
- Be kind and cautious with cough and sneezing--cover mouth and nose and use tissues
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher indicate student should not come to school until 24 hours fever free (without medicine) and additional concerns of illness are best discussed with your Physician
- Do NOT share food, drinks, utensils with others
- Flu shots are available in the community
- Be proactive, contain illness by staying home if you are sick, and prevent the spread of germs

each Wednesday and Thursday morning for 1 to 2 volunteers to help unload kids at the curb. Please email Marc at [email protected], and he'll get you set up for your desired day.

Counselor's Corner
Next week we will continue to discuss, i
dentify, and outsmart the tricks that are consistently used in predatory crimes. Children learn essential personal safety skills to improve self-reliance and raise self-esteem; all while being consistently reassured that most people are kind, safe, and committed to their well-being.
Students also learn that they deserve to feel safe, protected, and happy. We used the term tricky people to describe people who trick kids. It does not matter how well you know them, how old they are, or what they look like, the only thing that matters is what they ask you to do.
If they ask you to do something unsafe or uncomfortable, kids should follow three simple rules . . .

Say NO! (Stop! Don't do that! Leave me alone!)
·
Go
away. (Get away from the abuser as quickly as possible.)
·
Tell
a trusted adult about what happened. It is never ok to keep abuse a secret.
Please reinforce these ideas and concepts at home, and we will work together to keep our kids safe.
PS - I LOVE the notes and pictures being sent to me for Appreciation Week. I can't thank you enough for the kind words and affirmations. It has truly been a wonderful week.

Online Registration Ends: April 28
Lovejoy Leopards, Inc. invites you to join them for a morning run or walk in the country surrounding Lovejoy High School. The 1K Fun Run will begin at 7:30 AM, followed by the 5K at 8:00 AM. The certified 5K course is a fast course or, if you prefer, you may choose the 1K Fun Run. Races will be chip-timed by Race Chip Timing.
After running, enjoy a pancake breakfast which is included in the race entry fee. Non-race participants may buy tickets at the door ($7 for adults, $5 children ages 6-12, and children 5 years and younger eat free) for breakfast.

An Oxfam Hunger Banquet is a memorable, interactive event which brings hunger and poverty issues to life. After 40 years, this volunteer-led effort is still going strong and has changed hundreds of thousands of lives.

WSMS Independent Studies student, Carrie Duke, is planning this hunger banquet for her 2nd semester project.
Participants will choose an income card which will depict what they will have for dinner. Depending on the income card, attendees will receive either a more nutritious and a higher quantity of food, or a less nutritious meal.
Join Carrie on Sunday, April 30th, from 5:00 - 6:30 PM in the WSMS Cafeteria (1101 West Lucas Road, Lucas, TX, 75002) for a learning experience which will change your outlook on world hunger. See hunger in a whole new way.
