Message from the Principal
Kathy Foster

Hart Family and Friends,

Next Friday is a big day for our fourth grade students. They are headed to the capital to learn more about how our government works and the history of our great state. When you see cars in the parking lot early in the morning and later that night, it will be our fourth grade families.

If you are not busy this weekend, our LHS Theater Department is presenting the musical Fiddler on the Roof. You won't want to miss the opportunity to see our wonderful students perform. This is also a great show for the family to enjoy together.

Happy at Hart,
Kathy Foster
Congratulations Mrs. Montgomery

Congratulations to our very own Michele Montgomery. Mrs. Montgomery teaches Kindergarten and completed her first marathon last weekend. She ran in the Houston Marathon and earlier this week we celebrated her accomplishment with the students on the morning announcements.

We are thrilled to recognize her accomplishment and appreciate the example she set for students on how to work hard to achieve your goals.

NEW! ILLNESS

Currently, we are seeing a rise in Flu A, and strep throat. Symptoms may include (but may not be experienced by all): fever, chills, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, cough, diarrhea, headache, body aches, sore throat. It seems that the most common symptoms with these illnesses are fever, sinus congestion, headache, stomach ache (not many complaints of body aches with the Flu so far).  We are also seeing a short lived virus including low grade fever, stomach ache, and headache. Please remember, if your little ones have had diarrhea, fever greater than 100 (without medications), or vomiting, they must be out of school for a full 24 hours so that we can help keep protect others.

The most effective way to protect ourselves for coming in contact with bacteria and viruses are:

* Frequent hand washing with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand rubs containing at least 60 percent alcohol (when soap and water aren't available).
*Avoid direct contact with body fluids of people who are obviously sick
*Be kind and cautious with cough and sneezing--cover mouth and nose and use tissues
*Fever of 100 degrees or higher indicates student should not come to school until 24 hours fever free (without medicine) and additional concerns of illness are best discussed with your Physician
*Do NOT share food, drinks, and utensils with others
*Flu shots are available in the community
*Be proactive, contain illness by staying home if you are sick, and prevent the spread of germs

HEAD LICE
This is the time of year that brings upsetting incidences involving head lice. Head lice can happen to anyone, so it is important to learn how to recognize, treat and prevent it from happening again! Here's what to look for:

-Persistent itching of the head
-Small white particles attached to hair that are difficult to remove
-Small brown bugs that move very fast

*We no longer conduct "line-up" classroom lice checks but if a child is having and sign/symptoms listed above they are sent to the clinic for assessment. We do not give specific information on particular children or classrooms that have had incidences of lice. For more information please refer to the link on our website under Hart Elementary/Clinic drop down tab. On the left side there is a link that is always available for your education.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Counselor's Corner

Obstacles become opportunities when our mindset moves us forward......

Next week in third and fourth grades we will continue the process of explaining  how our mind set determines our response to struggles, challenges, and obstacles. When we approach things with a growth mindset it helps us to navigate difficult terrain and enables us to climb to new heights. In a growth mindset, goals don't appear to be out of reach.

Sincerely,

Ms. Kennaugh
Counselor

Lovejoy High School Performing Arts Presents Fiddler on the Roof:
January 19 - 21 A classic, timeless journey of love, loss, faith, and family.

The tradition of great musicals continues at Lovejoy High School with this year's musical, Fiddler on the Roof, January 19th through 21st at 7:00 PM.

Set in the small Russian town of Anatevka in 1905, Fiddler on the Roof tells a story of faith, family, and tradition. Tevye (played by senior, Trace Glorioso) tries to preserve his family's traditions in a changing world. He is forced to choose between maintaining his Jewish culture and the happiness of his three eldest daughters, Tzeitel (sophomore, Adelyn Maruca), Hodel (senior, Zoe Kahana), and Chava (junior, Renae Haas).

From laughter-inducing lines to memorable music, Fiddler on the Roof is a show for everyone, featuring characters audiences will fall in love with, such as the local matchmaker, Yente (senior, Abby Yaegar), the village butcher, Lazar Wolfe (junior, Vinny Horlock), and the poor lovestruck tailor, Motel (junior, Ryan Hyde).

The show offers iconic and beloved songs such as "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," "Tradition," and "The Dream," making it a perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for students, faculty and seniors. Click here to purchase tickets online.  The physical box office, located in front of the LHS auditorium, will be open the week of the show, January 16th through 20th.
