The National Tour

We're thrilled to announce that an exhibition of Agnes Martin's early work organized by the Harwood's curatorial team is traveling to three venues across the country over the next year.

Agnes Martin:  The New York-Taos Connection (1947-1957) explores the body of work created by Martin during the decade that she spent traveling between Taos and New York, NY. The University of New Mexico Art Museum in Albuquerque will host the exhibition September 13 through December 15, 2013. HARWOOD MUSEUM ALLIANCE

Alliance President
Judy Crouch

The Art of Wine event on February 1 was a well-attended, fun, and, indeed, very successful night for the Harwood Museum of Art. Members of the Alliance Board worked in conjunction with curatorial staff and volunteers to put together a silent auction of 30 pieces of art selected by Curator Jina Brenneman.  Hopefully, this will become an annual festive, fund raising event for the Museum.

On February 8, 2013, the Alliance Board hosted the Members' Opening Reception for the Museum's new spring exhibition. The evening of art, food, and wine was enjoyed by over 300 members, artists, and guests of artists. If you did not have the opportunity to attend the opening, the exhibition runs until May 5, 2013.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to staff, members of the Alliance Board, volunteers and everyone who assisted in any way with these two events. Your support is so important to the success of these endeavors!!! And, my deepest gratitude goes to Rick Taylor at Albertsons for provisions and Chef Matthew Currey for preparation for the Alliance Members' Opening Reception. Their spirit of generosity is overwhelming as they have been food sponsors for these events for several years. Thank you so much Rick and Matthew!!!

 Sincerely,

Judy Crouch, President

Harwood Museum Alliance Board

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Susan Longhenry

March is a wonderful and exciting time at the Harwood Museum of Art. The response to the exhibitions we opened in February has been wonderful. Taos News published a beautiful feature about these shows that I think you'll enjoy. Please come experience this celebration of Northern New Mexico soon.

Throughout this month you'll also find great events including the remarkably moving film Nicky's Family, a high-definition, surround-sound screening of L'Altra Meta del Cielo (The Other Side of the Sky) performed by Milan's Teatro Alla Scala, and Who's Gonna Save You? A Native Perspective on Global Climate Change, a very special evening shining a light on Taos' green movement and eco entrepreneurs.

It's all here for you in March at the Harwood Museum of Art!

Sincerely,

IN THE ARTHUR BELL AUDITORIUM

Saturday, March 2, 7 p.m.

Nicky's Family

This moving film tells the nearly forgotten story of Nicholas Winton, an Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II. Today the story of this rescue is known all over the world.  Winton was knighted by Queen Elisabeth II, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 583 recognizing his remarkable deed.

Saturday, March 9, 7 p.m.

L'Altra Meta del Cielo by Teatro Alla Scala

The Harwood Museum of Art in collaboration with Emerging Pictures proudly presents a high-definition, surround-screening of L'Altra Meta del Cielo (The Other Side of the Sky)  as performed by Teatro Alla Scala.  This stunning dance piece is based on the music of an aging Italian rock star.  Martha Clarke, MacArthur "Genius Grant" winner and renowned choreographer, takes on the unusual challenge of illustrating Vasco Rossi's life and career. Rossi is known for his drug use, racism and misogyny. The resulting piece is nothing short of magical. Clarke transforms Rossi's lyrics of hatred into a piece that glorifies, rather than denigrates, the feminine identity,

Fridays, March 15 & 22 and

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (REVISED)

Teatro Serpiente

Taos' own Rich Greywolf, Adam Overley, and Scott Tennant cover Shakespeare's 37 plays in under two hours - what could be simpler? Watch as Teatro Serpiente - with a little bit of dumb luck, and a whole lot of fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants - recreates for your viewing pleasure the splendor, grandeur and sheer literary brilliance of the entire Shakespearean canon (and some sonnets too). Come early to get a seat in the front row, as some portions of the show require audience participation. Did you really expect three guys to get through all of Shakespeare without a little help from their friends? Just a hint: brush up on your Ophelia! A special reception honoring the beginning of Teatro Serpiente's 2013 season will be held on opening night, March 15.

$12 Alliance Members, seniors, and students,

$15 nonmembers.
