Reminders for the Week: Generations Day is tomorrow

Message from the STEAM Coordinator

There is TEAM in STEAM
Every Tuesday afternoon before our weekly staff meeting, we do a 10-minute "huddle". The huddle is an opportunity to check in, to share, or just to listen to our colleagues. At our last huddle we were given the challenge to come up with a sentence that would convey something significant using only five words. In that spirit, I came up with the sentence: "There is TEAM in STEAM"; five words that make sense and are the motivation behind my work and today's column.

Since the beginning, I always felt there was a community who wanted to do something meaningful for STEAM at Yavneh Day School. There was no doubt that we all wanted to create a STEAM initiative that made every student feel connected to the integration of these five disciplines and to Judaism as well.

The faculty started this academic year by asking ourselves "why we are here?" and "why do we want to teach at Yavneh Day School?" My answer was two-fold:
  • I want to inspire each student to unlock doors that they might not imagine possible or they didn't even know existed;
  • I want the learning to not only take place in school but to go beyond the school's walls.
