Message from the Head of School

When I was a college Freshman, I suffered from a duodenal ulcer. I will never forget the wise words of my physician: Stop trying to live three minutes in one. He observed that of every minute, I tried to spend a minute worrying about what had just happened and a minute worrying about what was going to happen next. His advice: Use each minute to focus on the minute that you are living. While it's hard not to focus on lessons from the past, or to plan for the future, the gist of his message made sense to me. And while my job is all about learning lessons of the past and building Yavneh's future, I do try to take in the process and live in the present as much as possible.

It is now officially August, and in a few weeks, the school year will be off and running.  I can feel it in the communication that we are starting to receive, people are calling to speak with someone in the office and subtly asking about who the teachers will be, or about class placement. It is hard to live in a state of uncertainty. It is hard to delay gratification. We worry about our children's future.

We are almost there. We spent many months searching for and hiring the best teachers around, creating and re-creating K-3 class rosters to try to meet the needs of each and every student, designing schedules that can allow for a variety of educational experiences, ample time for each subject as well as time for teacher collaboration and preparation. We've been building new spaces, and re-purposing some existing spaces. We've also been working on refreshing our logo (don't worry, existing logo merchandise will still be considered cool- soon it will be vintage cool!)

While living in a state of ambiguity can be frustrating, it is an opportunity to build anticipation. I hope that we have your trust in making the right decisions to make your family's experience in the coming year a great one.

By Tuesday, families of K-3 students will be receiving notification of their children's class placements, and in next week's Hashavua, we will share information about our newly hired teachers.

And on the first day of school, we look forward to sharing with you our new spaces.

Hang in there - and enjoy the present. Make the most out of the remaining few weeks of vacation. We'll be here ready for you when the time comes.
