Welcome to Painting with a Twist

Opening at the Llanerch Shopping Center on West Chester Pike, is Painting with a Twist - Havertown.  Owners John Wilkins and Linda Jobling run  a successful Painting with a Twist in West Chester, and are excited about expanding their business to Havertown.

John grew up in Delaware County, and he has fond memories of Havertown, where some of his childhood friends lived.  "A few years ago, I discovered a more hip and attractive Havertown as I started visiting some of your new restaurants," explains John. "So when we were looking to expand, Havertown came to mind as a great option."

John has a varied professional background, from professional race car driving to non-profit management, Information Technology, and Business Consulting.  Linda, who grew up in Australia, has a background in fine art, drama, and teaching.  Together, running a business focusing on art makes sense!

The finishing touches of the store are going in next week, and they plan to open in mid-April, with a Grand Opening to be announced soon.  "It is exciting when a storefront that sat vacant for several years is again filled with energy and activity," notes 2nd Ward Commissioner and HPED Board Member Mario Oliva.  "We are so pleased to welcome them to Havertown!
HPED Founder Donald Kelly Honored
HPED Vice-President Donald Kelly was surprised with an award for Civic Engagement at our Annual Meeting.  The board had been discussing the idea of creating an annual awards program, with plans to unveil the awards at our Annual Meeting this fall.  Behind the scenes, there were plans to surprise Don at our Meet & Greet event as the first recipient of an award named in his honor.

The Donald Kelly Award for Civic Engagement will be presented annually to a person whose notable efforts and good works have impacted the quality of life and economic development of Haverford Township in meaningful and significant ways.

The award is named for Donald Kelly, who has served on the Haverford Township Civic Council Board of Directors for the past twenty years, including four years as President, and who was founder and chair of the Task for Force for Economic Development, the precursor to HPED.  On the HPED Board, Don has served as Vice-President and created the First Wednesday Dining Club and Holiday Window Display Contest.  Don also co-founded Haverford Green, which maintains the Triangle Garden in Oakmont.  This award is named for Donald Kelly, who continues to faithfully serve our community with intelligence, vision, passion, persistence, and hard work.

"I am deeply honored to have the HPED Civic Engagement Award established in my name and to be the first recipient of the award. To be sure, productive civic work in our wonderful community is a sufficient reward in itself," explains Don.  "But such appreciation as you have extended is something very special and is among my most rewarding experiences."

They say it takes a village – and it does.  But every village needs people to point the way and encourage others to get on board!  Thank you Don for your service and leadership!
Kelly Music Center to Open in Oakmont Village

We are pleased to announce that an exciting new venue for music and arts is coming to the Oakmont section of Havertown this summer.  The Kelly Music Center will be located at 4 - 6 East Eagle Road next to Katz Pharmacy, and will provide live performance opportunities for developing young musicians, singers, writers and other students interested in developing their craft as well as feature professional performers, singer-songwriters, comedians.  The Center will house a stage with professional sound and lights and a viewing area to accommodate up to 80 people.  The multi-purpose space will also host special events for artisans, crafters and private functions.

Kelly Music for Life is a 501c3 non-profit led by Haverford Township residents and brothers, Tom Kelly, Paul Kelly and their wives, Sheri and Susan.  The group organizes fundraising events including the annual Haverford Spring Fest on Brookline Boulevard, the Concert in the Park Summer Series and the Havertown Irish Festival.
