Welcome to Local Home & Gifts
HPED offers a warm welcome to Local Home & Gifts at 11 Brookline Boulevard!
Shop owner Kathleen Rode, known by her friends as "Beanie,"
opened the first Local Home & Gifts in Media two years ago, and had been thinking about opening a second store in Havertown when this spot (formerly the Hockey Shed) opened up.
Kathleen grew up in Springfield, but has always appreciated Havertown, where some of her friends lived. "The thing I like best about Havertown," explains Kathleen, "is the close knit community and sense of pride here. I have received so much support on Facebook for this new venture, and already I have people stopping to say hello and to look around." The store is bright and earthy, and Kathleen's warmth and friendly smile makes customers feel right at home.
Kathleen hopes that the store will serve an unmet need for unique home and gift items. She tries to fill the shop with beautiful, interesting and fun items that are affordable. In addition to home decor, candles, clothing and accessories, jewelry, and baby items, Kathleen will also offer Havertown-themed items.
The official opening of the store is June 1st, but there will be an Open House on the evening of June 29th. Please stop by to meet Kathleen and take a look around the store!

Haverford is in Bloom, and there are so many people to thank! The new garden at the Ardmore Junction train station installed by the Rotary Club......new trees and shrubs at the Brookline parking lot thanks to Tree Tenders...Darby Road median planters...flowers added to the planters in the Llanerch, Brookline, Edgewood, Oakmont, and Manoa business districts and at Haverford Middle School... new planters installed along Darby Road in Oakmont... and this week, a fountain is being installed in the Triangle Garden on Darby Road!
These beautification projects give the Township a wonderful face lift. Those, along with other upgrades such as Haverford Reserve, the YMCA, new pavilions in the parks, a new Township Building and plans for a renovated library, are transforming Haverford Township. What an amazing time to live in this great community!
Thank you to Haverford Township, who provided most of the funds for this work to be done. Thank you to our commissioners who voted unanimously to approve HPED's budget in 2017.
Thank you to Larry Gentile, Richard Dougherty, and Steve Sinibaldi for their hard work and support, and to the public works crew for doing a lot of the heavy lifting over the past ten months - transporting and placing huge concrete planters, picking up supplies, building raised gardens in the median strips, filling them with soil, and assisting with planting and watering.

We could not do this work without help from our volunteers: Gina Ranieri, Mario Oliva, Mark Anderson, Gail Schneck, Sherrie and Steve Grupp, Pat Binswanger, Andrea Broido, Marge Slavin, Christine Seewagon and her son, and Rudy Fabry. In addition, the Havertown Rotary Club and Haverford Green organized volunteer planting days for their projects.
Thank you to businesses who donated time or money to the projects, especially to Chris Whiting of Soft Wash Platoon who washed the planters in Edgewood and Llanerch in preparation for Nolan Painting to stain them (both companies donating time and materials for free).

Online Marketing Mechanisms: A Look at Google My Business™
|
Let’s face it – running a business today is not what it was years ago. Even over the past decade, we have seen dramatic changes in the way business owners connect and engage with customers. The rapid evolution of technology is the principal driving force behind the constantly changing aspects of life. No longer are people limited to a slow computer to look up movie times, nearby restaurants, or directions to a friend’s house. We now have the ability to do these things and many more in the palm of our hands at an instant. Life is simply moving at a much faster pace.
Unfortunately, many businesses simply don’t know how to use technology advantageously, especially those who have relied on traditional marketing tools such as newspaper print advertisements, newsletters, billboards, and flyers. Fortunately, there are many online tools to help business owners overcome this dilemma.
One example is Google My Business, which allows business owners to upload, modify, and share and important information onto Google’s immense search engine instantly. With this tool, you can post operating hours, contact information, your business’ website, and even dining menus if you own a restaurant. By creating a profile, proprietors are able to connect with other Google users and monitor the amount of searches/clicks. You can also respond to customers’ reviews to see what people actually think about your products or services. Even if you have multiple store locations, Google makes the same processes hassle-free and is very user-friendly. The best part is that this service is completely free – all you need is a Google account (for more information, visit
www.google.com/business/ or call toll-free at 1(844)-491-9665 Monday through Friday 9 am – 6 pm).
