REMINDER
Our next Professionals Night will be on Thursday, June 8th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Chamber of Commerce. This evening’s presentation we are thrilled to have Kimberly A. Scanlan of the Coachella Valley Women’s Business Center discussing how the Center can help you through their resources and variety of workshops that range from introductory to advance subjects to help businesses and can give you strategies to inspire you to move forward to success. Ladies, small businesses owned by women are increasing in number and this event will provide valuable information for current and future businesswomen. The Joshua Tree National Park Association is seeking written proposals and samples from local vendors for night sky postcards.

Postcards should contain a brief education message and be a standard 4” x 6”.

Proposals are due June 5, 2017.

 CALL FOR ART: Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition 2017

Artwork entries are now being accepted for the fifth annual Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition and Juried Exhibition, which will be held in September at the Oasis of Mara in Twentynine Palms, next to Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters 

Deadline for entry submissions for the juried exhibition is Saturday, July 15, 2017, by 11:59 p.m. PT. Artwork must depict or be inspired by the unique aspects of Joshua Tree National Park or its cultural history. Artists may enter up to three (3) artwork entries for an entry fee of $35, and images of the artwork and entry fees can be submitted online. Complete guidelines and entry form are available at www.JTNPArts.org 

Approximately 50 to 60 artists will be selected for the honor of exhibiting in the show, which will be on display at the historic 29 Palms Art Gallery for the month of September, with an awards reception set for Saturday night, Sept. 16

Twentynine Palms Recreation Department is gearing up for summer activities

The City of Twentynine Palms Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting registrations for Youth Volleyball Camp, Youth Basketball Camp, Swim Lessons, Summer Dance Workshops and Summer Day Camp.  Ages vary for each program. Spaces are limited.

Desert Institute - Old Schoolhouse Lectures

June 9 - The Military History of the Salton Sea
Few people know that the Salton Sea played a major role in the development of the atomic bombs that were dropped on Japan during World War II.

Discover the fascinating but little known history of the World War II Navy Base at the Salton Sea and its post-war use by the Atomic Energy Commission. This lecture is extensively illustrated with historical photographs.

Sponsored by the Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society, this lecture is held at the Old Schoolhouse Museum, 6760 National Park Drive, Twentynine Palms, on Friday, June 9 at 7 pm.  This lecture is open to the public and costs $5 per person at the door. Optional dinner with speaker at 5 pm at the 29 Palms Inn, room is limited and attendees are responsible for their own meal.

29 CHALLENGE!

Run on Saturday, Bike on Sunday, or join the ULTIMATE 29 and do both! This flat and fast 18 mile course is packed with amazing views of the Mojave Desert, spectacular mountain ranges, and Joshua Tree National Park. There will also be 10K and 5K running distances on Saturday! PLUS enjoy food and live music Saturday night with Arms of America U2 Tribute Band from Las Vegas! 
Regular Board meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. All meetings are held in CMC Community Room at the Bell Center, 6162 Rotary Way in Joshua Tree, California. In the interest of time, the meeting will start at 2:00 p.m. with a Closed Session scheduled early in the meeting. The regular session will begin at 3:00 p.m, unless noted differently on the agenda. Board meetings are open to the public. 


Dedicated to helping the citizens of the Morongo Basin and High Desert discover “with new eyes” the rich cultural heritage and natural history of this area.
 The goal of the Twentynine Palms Historical Society's Young Historian program is to encourage the youth of Twentynine Palms to become more familiar with our local history.

City of Twentynine Palms Visitor Center & Gallery and Chamber of Commerce,

The exhibition showcases spring in the desert, with artwork created by desert artists, who were invited to submit their expressions in a variety of media, including paintings, photography, mosaics, ceramics, assemblage and metal sculpture.

The public is invited to attend the reception, view the show, and enjoy music and refreshments with the artists. Admission is free.

The exhibition will remain on display from April 7 through June 30, 2017 at the visitor center.

  For 2017, Theatre 29 will present five Main Stage productions, a Halloween Haunt, a Summer Youth Theater Program, and an exclusive two-week run of a special theatrical event. In addition, new for 2017, Theatre 29 will introduce an Improvisational Theatre troupe under the direction of Chris Fleischman
Next up, the popular Broadway musical Into the Woods will be helmed by artistic director Charles Harvey and musical director Kathryn Ferguson. With a classic story that darkly twists and turns through the worlds of favorite Fairy tales and Children's literature. Into the Woods will run April 28th through May 21st.
 
The Andrew Lloyd Webber operetta, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat running August 25th through September 17th will bring the St. Joseph's Players of Yucca Valley's artistic director Rebecca Havely along with musical director Analisa Pilecki to Theatre 29.
 
The very popular season themed Halloween Haunt will continue with Freak Show for October 19th through 31st. Producer Brandon Hazel said the walk-through attraction will be both frightening and disturbing and definitely not for younger children.
 After an immensely successful, well-attended series of workshops and auditions, troupe director Chris Fleischman is thrilled to announce the cast of the inaugural improvisational comedy troupe, “The Baker’s Dozen”, at Theatre 29.

Live performances (rated PG-13) by the troupe are scheduled at Theatre 29 June 10, July 15, August 12, September 23, October 28, November 11, and December 30, 201 7.  

Ticket prices are greatly reduced with General Admission at $10.00, Military, and Seniors are $7.00 and $5.00 for students with ID. Theatre 29 Season Ticket holders can attend one performance at no charge.

The 2017 Theatre 29 Summer Youth Theater program is well into the planning stages and staff members are ready for this exciting educational experience in the live arts!

The program will run Monday Through Friday from June 26 through July 30, 2017, (4th of July off) culminating with two performances of “Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr.” set for each day, July 28, 29, 30, 2017. The Youth Theater Program and the performances will all be held at the Theatre 29 building at 73637 Sullivan Road in the City of Twentynine Palms.
