Nov 28, 2017      Finger Lakes Connected
I'm noticing the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations all around town. Does this mean I should take down the Halloween stuff and say sayonara to the pumpkins and mums?

Diabetes and Healthy Eating Guidelines
Being a diabetic requires you to make good choices about the food that you eat. Healthy eating can lead to healthy results - stable blood sugar, a strong heart, weight control and more.
Some general guidelines:
1. Eat a variety of healthy foods
2. Limit saturated and trans fat, and cholesterol
3. Choose whole grains, vegetables and fruits over processed carbohydrates
4. Limit added sugars
5. Monitor sodium (salt) intake

Develop a healthy eating plan. It does not have to be a strict menu. A good plan is one that fits your food preferences and lifestyle; one you can follow consistently; gives you the nutrition you need for good health; and helps you manage your blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure. Get a steady supply of food during the day. Try to eat on a regular schedule. Eat about the same amount of food at the same time every day. Try not to skip meals and snacks.  Remember your plan is designed for you. You'll be more motivated to follow your plan if you remember that a healthy eating plan is not only good for you, but all members of your family. As always your health care provider can assist you in your dietary plan.
These tips are brought to you by Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe
