Headwaters Tourism to host Canada 150 strategy meeting - Monday, April 25th

In an effort to leverage the impact and potential of the Canada 150 celebrations for our region in 2017, Headwaters Tourism will be hosting a planning and information meeting for groups, municipalities and stakeholders who are planning Canada 150 events. The purpose of this meeting is to explore how groups can work together to support one another and achieve greater collective impact, as well as share information and opportunities.

Strategic framework for tourism in Ontario
  
Starting in April, the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sport will be holding facilitated focus sessions on tourism in communities across the province to support the development of the Strategic Framework for Tourism in Ontario.  Stakeholders are encouraged to attend one of these sessions to hear the province's plan and provide input on how to grow tourism in the province.

Ontario labour shortage study

 
Ontario is currently experiencing labour shortages in the tourism sector and the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) has partnered with TIAC (Tourism Industry Association of Canada) to conduct an industry survey that will provide context to the labour shortage in Ontario. The survey will take place in three parts.  Tourism stakeholders are encouraged to complete part #1 of the survey before April 29, 2016.

Headwaters Food & Farming Alliance - food charter consultations


A Food Charter will define a common vision for a healthy, fair, prosperous and sustainable food system in the Headwaters Region. Individuals from the health and well-being, social services and food access, economic development, environmental responsibility, food production or culture sectors are asked to share their perspectives and provide valuable insight  into what the food charter should include and what strategic actions need to take place for the Headwaters food system to thrive.  Next sessions take place on April 20th and April 27th.

Town of Orangeville summer attraction strategy

Based on recommendations outlined in Orangeville's Municipal Cultural Plan, the Town's Economic Development office is working to establish a summer attraction strategy for Orangeville. The strategy is intended to develop fresh new programs and summer offerings that will help build the Town's cultural attractions year-round. The Town is seeking input from local and regional residents of all ages.

Headwaters Tourism plans to hire two students this summer to support the regional branding and marketing initiatives that help position Headwaters as Ontario's premier rural tourism destination, and promotes our brand, Where Ontario Gets Real.

Student photographer - summer 2016
The student will photograph the Headwaters region, focusing on rural, agricultural and tourism assets under the direction of the marketing team.

Student videographer - summer 2016
The student will shoot footage of the Headwaters region, focusing on rural, agricultural and tourism assets, and will provide editing services under the direction of the marketing team.

The Headwaters Equine Leadership Group will be celebrating excellence in the equine industry at its 2016 Headwaters Horse Country Excellence awards gala on Wednesday, May 11th at the Best Western Plus Orangeville Inn & Suites.

The evening honours four equine industry leaders who exemplify excellence and who, through their work and vision, have helped the Headwaters region become a centre of equine excellence in the Province of Ontario.

With the opening of the new butcher shoppe & cafe, Heatherlea will also be offering classes in butchery and cooking that will provide customers the chance to learn techniques and skills from some of the area's best chefs and culinary experts.
