These workshops are designed to assist our partners in further enhancing and growing their business through specific tourism opportunities, as well as providing an opportunity for these market-ready businesses to liaise, network and build partnerships with other like-minded businesses and colleagues.

CANADA 150 CELEBRATIONS IN HEADWATERS
 
On Monday, April 25th, Headwaters area tourism operators and municipal representatives met to explore opportunities to work together in regards to the Canada 150 celebration. There was significant interest in working together to leverage the impact of this milestone national anniversary in the Headwaters area, and the group agreed to the following:
  • to plan events for significant impact over the course of 2017, with the goal of having something happening each week in 2017, if possible;
  • to coordinate event planning with a shared calendar and minimize events competing with each on the same dates;
  • to encourage organizers to create a Canada 150 theme for existing events in 2017 (and not feel obligated to create new events);
  • to develop a Headwaters Canada 150 brand, and promote all regional Canada 150 events under this umbrella brand.

     

The group will convene again in late August to further refine plans, and other stakeholders will be invited to join the planning group. In the meantime, groups and businesses who are planning Canada 150 events are invited to share those plans with Headwaters Tourism, and we will begin building a shared planning calendar.
 
HEADWATERS TOURISM YEAR END REPORT

Each year Headwaters Tourism's Board of Directors establishes the strategic priorities for the organization.  These priorities support the Association's vision of positioning Headwaters as Ontario's premier rural tourism destination.

2015/2016 was a banner year for Headwaters Tourism, and we are proud to present a year-end report that highlights the outcomes of our work.

 
HEADWATERS HORSE COUNTRY RELEASES FINAL PROJECT REPORT
 
In 2013 Headwaters Tourism received funding
from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to explore the impact of the equine sector in the Headwaters region, and to position the Headwaters region as a centre of equine excellence in the province of Ontario.

After three years, the Headwaters Equine Leadership Group, a volunteer, industry-led committee, is pleased to present the outcomes of their work, and are proud to proclaim that the Headwaters region is now widely recognized as Horse Country


Comment on Ontario's draft Culture Strategy
  
Last fall, Ontario's arts community came out in force to participate in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS)'s consultation to develop a Culture Strategy for Ontario. Now is your chance to review the draft Culture Strategy and provide further input. This document will influence the province's vision for arts and culture, define priorities and guide government support for the sector in the years ahead.

You can participate in the next stage of consultation and provide feedback on the core elements of the draft Culture Strategy until Friday, May 13, 2016.

Federal government expands infrastructure program to include tourism & recreation

 
The federal Liberal government is adding tourism and recreational infrastructure to the types of projects that qualify for cash under a $14-billion program launched by the Conservatives that will be rolled out the door over the next two years.

Canada-China Tourism Advancement program


The Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and Destination Canada (DC) announced a new China engagement strategy called the Canada-China Tourism Advancement (CCTA) program at Canada's premier international tourism marketplace, Rendez-Vous Canada 2016. CCTA expands on the Canada China Inbound Tour Operator Registration Program to help all members of Canada's tourism industry take advantage of growth opportunities in the Chinese marketplace.

Mulmur Township in the running for concert featuring Meghan Trainor
 
Air Miles Detour is a new program that will give one Canadian community the chance to experience a Meghan Trainor concert like never before. The program gives Air Miles Collectors the opportunity to support one of five great Canadian cities in order to determine the location where the concert will be held. Voting takes between May 1st and 31st, 2016.
