Dear Friends,
Earlier this week Florence, a 2-year-old Pit Bull mix, was brought to Animal Humane in horrible condition. Found wandering I-40 near Coors Boulevard, her entire back was covered with severe lacerations and her face was badly swollen. We rushed her to our donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic, where Dr. Jackie Blanchette, our Chief Medical Officer, announced a bleak prognosis: she may not survive.
Without having any way of knowing what caused her injuries, our Clinic Team went to work removing the dead skin from her back and pumping her dehydrated body full of IV fluids. Thankfully, the next morning, it was clear that Florence was not going to give up! Though the road to recovery would be long and arduous, we were all relieved to learn that with dedicated medical care, Florence has a long, happy dog life ahead of her!
To make her story even more interesting, upon scanning her for a microchip, which we do for every pet that enters our care, we were able to locate Florence's stunned owners. It turns out that Florence had gone missing in January of this year, 6 months ago, and her loving family had almost given up hope of ever being reunited with their beloved dog. Though they were overjoyed, their feelings turned to dismay when they learned about her health condition and the medical costs associated with Florence's recovery. While dedicated to doing all they can to help her heal, they simply cannot afford to pay for her vital medical treatment.
