Dear Friends,

7/26/12: Florence showing her appreciation to one of our Clinic team members with a kiss at her check-up appointment
|
A few weeks ago, we shared Florence's heart wrenching story with you (below).
Today, we are thrilled to be able to provide a wonderful update on Florence's condition! Thanks to your generosity, Florence has been attending weekly check-ups at our Donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic and receiving dedicated TLC in her home. Florence is flourishing!
For the first couple weeks, Florence was lethargic and subdued as her mind and body fought hard to recover from her traumatic condition.
However, as each day passes, Florence becomes stronger, happier and more energetic! Our Clinic team reports that her recovery is right on schedule, and her family says she has returned to the loving, spunky dog they knew before she went missing in January.
Florence's mom (pictured at Florence's recent veterinary appointment below) says that she loves to give kisses, snuggle on the couch and does very well with the family's Siamese kitten.
We are incredibly grateful for every generous donation made to our Pet Save Fund in response to Florence's story. Your thoughtful gifts have ensured that Florence, and many other pets like her (an average of 30 per year), can receive the medical treatment they need while remaining with their loving family.
With sincere gratitude and appreciation,
The Animal Humane Team

Our original message, sent July 13, 2012.
Earlier this week Florence, a 2-year-old Pit Bull mix, was brought to Animal Humane in horrible condition. Found wandering I-40 near Coors Boulevard, her entire back was covered with severe lacerations and her face was badly swollen. We rushed her to our donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic, where Dr. Jackie Blanchette, our Chief Medical Officer, announced a bleak prognosis: she may not survive.
Without having any way of knowing what caused her injuries, our Clinic Team went to work removing the dead skin from her back and pumping her dehydrated body full of IV fluids. Thankfully, the next morning, it was clear that Florence was not going to give up! Though the road to recovery would be long and arduous, we were all relieved to learn that with dedicated medical care, Florence has a long, happy dog life ahead of her!
To make her story even more interesting, upon scanning her for a microchip, which we do for every pet that enters our care, we were able to locate Florence's stunned owners. It turns out that Florence had gone missing in January of this year, 6 months ago, and her loving family had almost given up hope of ever being reunited with their beloved dog. Though they were overjoyed, their feelings turned to dismay when they learned about her health condition and the medical costs associated with Florence's recovery. While dedicated to doing all they can to help her heal, they simply cannot afford to pay for her vital medical treatment.
