Unfortunately, the Senate's motion to proceed to debate on efforts to rewrite healthcare policy narrowly passed. So it remains critical to push back against the very real threat of harmful cuts to and restructuring of Medicaid resulting in millions of Americans losing health coverage.
Please call your senators today. Their phone numbers are
here. Here is a sample script, but please add your own concerns:
As a person of faith who values healthcare as a human right, I continue to be very concerned about attempts by the Senate to pass legislation that would result in devastating cuts and restructuring to Medicaid and millions more Americans going without health coverage. I urge Senator {NAME} to vote against any short-sighted proposals such as a "skinny repeal." I urge the senator instead to start over and work in a bipartisan manner to stabilize the insurance market, improve affordability, and strengthen and expand health coverage.
Background - Senators are expected to move on to what is being called "skinny repeal," which would repeal individual and employer insurance mandates and a tax on medical device manufacturers, but nothing else. Analysts fear that this is a tactic to pass
something - anything - in order to move on to negotiations between the House and Senate, with the House bill as the framework. The House bill would result in 24 million more Americans without health coverage by 2026.
