"Bike
Cops for Kids" Promote Safety in North
Minneapolis
If you see a police officer stopping a child this summer, it
may be a good thing...especially if it's part of The Minneapolis
Police Department's "Bike Cops for Kids" program.
Throughout the summer, police officers ride through neighborhoods
and distribute 400 bike helmets. North Memorial partners with
the Police Department by helping them gain access to low-cost
helmets. The children get special stickers so the officers know
which helmets they gave away. Then, if the officers see them
wearing the helmets later in the summer, the child will win one of
40 free bikes. The program, in its second year in North
Minneapolis, aims to develop positive relationships between
Minneapolis Police officers and the community. Check out the Bike
Cops' Facebook fan page or blog to learn more.
