Summer time in the city! I love it. I like that the streets are quieter and I love the heat. Almost always. Complaining is a huge waste of energy. This is NYC and it gets hot. People do live in hotter places.
I'm going to be playing around with Smart Bells this summer as I've been asked to come up with ideas using them as props in yoga posses. The company is developing an App releasing some time this year. This will be interesting and exciting coming up with a new prop used for asana. Thank you Story Von Holzhausen and Dave Grove for including me in this project.
If you live in NYC, come join us at IDP for a weekend retreat on karma June 14, 15, 16. My favorite weekend immersion retreat out there. I will be leading the yoga breaks. I wonder what seeds will come to fruition? Karma is ripe with topics for discussion. :-)
IDP Weekend retreats are a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the practices and teachings of the Buddhist tradition in the support of a group environment. The focus for this retreat will be on the traditional teachings on karma, as well as a western psychological approach to working with conditioned behaviors. It will include talks and practice instruction, in-depth meditation, short yoga breaks, and discussion.
On June 21, "The 21 Day Global Challenge" commences. 21 days, 21 minutes, $21 to make new habits and break old ones. I am featured in the meditation section. I was asked to submit a 7 minute teaching segment of both a yoga pose and meditation, but I chose to submit one and go for meditation. Speaking for 7 minutes without flubbing up and not knowing how far along I was during the process was the hardest part, but I did it and a couple of hours later, mission accomplished. I did the video gratis. As you all know, I meditate and meditation is a daily practice for me and I believe everyone would benefit from a formal meditation practice. I've downloaded a similar video on my website, it's a bit longer because 7 minutes was high pressure to fit in all in! There's a writing piece that's in pending status on Elephant Journal. I collaborated with Dr. Miles Neale on writing an article about an unprecedented program Dr. Joe Loizzo, Dr. Emily Wolf and Miles created coming to NYC this fall. The program: The Nalanda Certificate Program in Contemplative Psychotherapy. I will post it on my blog and FB once it's published. You're going to change, there's no arguments about that. How you change and what actions you take to feel better, smile more, relax more is up to you.
Contact me if you want help with making positive changes that will work for you. I thank students, teachers, clients and friends who continue to learn and evolve through our experiences together and apart. There's so much more to health than food and exercise, but nutrition and mindful movement like yoga are great places to start.

HSL Happenings ~ We have fun!
10 Day Mind/Body/Spirit Detox Program
Yup, the first one was a super success, so we're doing it again June 21 - 30. First day of summer until just before Fourth of July holiday. If you choose to eliminate all the suggested foods from "foods not to include" list, not only do you get a chance to detox your body from mood altering substances like caffeine and sugar, you will also be learning about yoga off the mat which will help you kick those habits and patterns that are keeping you stuck. This is a method no one else out there is offering. From me to you, the Yogi Buddhist Health Coach. Now that's something to sign up for! How much? $5.50 a day for 10 days.
Here's what they had to say ...
"Just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for the very inspiring and profound detox guidance. I am sure it wasn't easy guiding a group "virtually" ... you've pulled it off beautifully! .... looking forward to future updates!"
"What a great day, I'm so glad I signed up for your spring detox program!! I just wanted to curb my eating and jump start summer weight loss, but I think this could actually change the way I eat permanently. I'm shocked that I haven't had any chocolate or wine today and it's 10:30 and I am loving this Yogi Kava tea! I also thought I'd hate kitchari, but I LOVED it. I'm just shocked at how this happened in such a lovely way, no starvation or self-hatred or anything negative. Thank you thank you thank you, you are truly amazing!"
"Many thanks to Kim for all the support and putting the cleanse together. I really enjoyed the program and learned many things about myself. Going forward now the gluten free is something I really should continue. Also the support from everyone in the program following on Facebook was very helpful. Thanks again to Kim and looking forward to continuing this journey."
Because the "detox crew" wanted to continue in some fashion learning as a supportive group, I composed a Good Life Summer Program from June 1 - July 31. You need to have a FB account to participate because that's where the group interaction is happening. We are having a celebration get together on July 19 to celebrate the birthday of one of the participants, so there is one social night planned in NYC if you live here and want to join us.

Meditation Daily sit
Our #Dailysit community is growing even more so with Insight Timer's free app offering groups within the community. You can join our Dailysit - IDP group. Each week there will be an opportunity for anyone who wants to participate in a community sit online. You don't need the Insight Timer app to meditate, but it sure makes for a warm and fuzzy feeling when you see others dedicated to mindfulness sitting somewhere with you.
Join me and others on Saturdays at 9:00 AM EST for a 30-minute sit from your home or wherever you are. I will do my best to make this the regular time for the community sit; however, stay tuned to the posts to get the weekly community online sit time. You can find and add me as a friend and join the group Daily Sit IDP on Insight Timer.

I go on and off the gluten free wagon and currently I am back on. Plain and simple, I just feel better, less bloated (aka gassy). Gluten free also means no beer ;-( but once again I feel better and it's worth it. Also, this is no big secret, but if you're looking to drop 5-7 pounds, there's your answer. Being gluten free pretty much forces me to find alternative meals to eat rather than the quick bite to go pastry, or quick pasta meal. I do buy gluten free alternative versions which I really like. Pictured here is French toast made with gluten free Canyon Bakehouse 7-Grain bread. I love this bread! It's nearly $7.00 a loaf, but it's worth it. My favorite GF pasta brand is Organic Bionature. Here is a handy list of GF grains. Play around with cooking different grains and see how you feel. Quinoa, high in protein is one of my favorites and great for breakfast!
