  CAPCAP Memo for the Movement
On July 11, the Conservative Action Project (CAP) released a Memo for the Movement entitled Real Repeal and Real Reform for Obamacare. A PDF version of the memo can be found here. This and other CAP memos can be viewed on CAP's website.

CAP encourages all leaders to move this memo directly out to their organizations' members to inform and provide them with principled policy statements or to use the information in another form. The material contained in this memo provides important information, and CAP is interested in it being shared widely to have a more well-informed citizenry.

Signatures will continue to be collected and CAP will release updated versions, as necessary. If you have not signed on yet and wish to participate, click here.

Stop the Obstruction
Senators Stabenow and Peters

Because federal judges serve lifetime appointments, President Trump has a long-lasting opportunity with the lower courts, with over 120 vacancies scattered across federal courts.

Justice Larsen
One of these vacancies is with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. President Trump nominated Michigan Supreme Court Justice Joan Larsen for this vacancy nearly two months ago. The Senate Judiciary Committee has yet to hold a hearing on her nomination, because Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Gary Peters (D-MI) have not submitted their blue slips consenting that Justice Larsen be moved forward.

In response to this delay, Judicial Crisis Network (JCN) launched a $140,000 digital ad campaign for Justice Larsen on June 30. Here is an ad that explains that Justice Larsen is well-qualified and Senators Stabenow and Peters are obstructing her nomination solely because of partisan politics. This demonstrates the way Democrats in the Senate use arcane procedures to quietly slow down (or completely stop) the President's nominees from advancing.

Would you please consider contacting Senators Stabenow and Peters and ask them to "end the political games" and support Justice Larsen's selection? Plus, spread the word of this obstruction via a tweet, Facebook post, newsletter blurb, op-ed, etc.

CNP Member Gary Marx is a Senior Advisor to JCN.

ObamacareObamacare Must Be Repealed and Replaced
The Trump Administration continues to prioritize repealing and replacing Obamacare. President Trump has urged the Senate to pass a repeal-and-replace bill so that a final version can reach his desk for a signature this month. On June 22, the Senate released a discussion draft of their healthcare bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act. New text for the bill is expected to be released tomorrow, July 13.

The White House has a healthcare portal, please click here. The website includes videos, easy-to-use data points, Obamacare victims' stories and various examples of failures in the news. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is providing Obamacare relief right now for patients. To learn more, please go here.

Timely Requests:
  • Urge your Senators to work swiftly to craft and pass a bill this month that relieves America of as many of the burdens of Obamacare as possible.
  • Share with your network the Obamacare-related websites above.
  • Promote this new report from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that shows that only 141 issuers have submitted health plan applications to participate in the Obamacare exchange compared to 227 in the last plan year and 281 the year before. As has been the trend, healthcare choices continue to disappear. Here is an article from The Washington Examiner that discusses the report

Unless you want the Internet to work more like the VA, the DMV, and the post office, let's keep the Internet free from burdensome regulations."
  ObamaObama's Transgender Policy
Delayed by Pentagon
On June 30, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis announced he will defer implementation of Obama's military transgender policy for six months to study the issue.

According to a Liberty Counsel press release, CNP member and retired Army Lieutenant General Jerry Boykin said "the Pentagon is right to hit the brakes on a policy that will fail to make our military more capable in performing its mission to fight and win wars. It's good that the nation's military leadership realizes what the American people realize, this policy makes no sense. The military has been reduced to stripping parts from museums, which is why it makes no sense to spend more than a billion taxpayer dollars on new body parts for anyone who joins the military and identifies as transgender." General Boykin is also the Executive Vice President of the Family Research Council. CNP Member and Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver had this to say about the delayed policy: "We are pleased that Defense Secretary Mattis stopped the Obama transgender policy for six months, and we urge him to put an end to the Obama-inspired plan.... This transgender policy undermines unit cohesion, preparedness and morale. We should focus on making the military prepared to defend, and we must stop using it as a place for social experimentation and coercion." If you would like to read more about this policy and how it would affect the military, please visit the Center for Military Readiness here.

Congresswoman Hartzler
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (R-MO-4) had an amendment to the FY18 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which the House is expected to vote on this Friday, June 14, that prohibits taxpayer funding of gender transitioning in the military. In one of her press releases it states that Congresswoman Hartzler withdrew the amendment after debate to give the Department of Defense an opportunity to address the policy internally. She would still like to bring the amendment to the floor, please contact her and encourage this action.

FederalFederal Regulatory State Annual Snapshot

The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) recently published the Ten Thousand Commandments, an annual snapshot of the size, scope and cost of federal regulations, and how they affect American consumers, businesses and the U.S. economy. Federal government spending, deficits and the national debt are staggering, but so is the impact of federal regulations.
In 2016, federal regulations and intervention cost American consumers and businesses $1.9 trillion.
