Volunteer of the Quarter
Kaila Roeser

Our volunteer of the quarter for the 1st quarter of 2015 is volunteer Kaila Roeser.  Kaila has been a CASA volunteer since 2012 and is also currently serving as secretary of the Heartland CASA Board of Directors. Kaila became a CASA Volunteer because she wanted to advocate for children to have more permanent homes. Her parents were foster parents for many children over the years and Kaila said that it was sometimes difficult seeing a child return home after being part of their family for several years.

Kaila was a supervisor at Younkers Department Store then decided to pursue her education and get a degree. After she completed her schooling, she worked at Goodwill Industries and the Center for Independent Living.  She is now retired.

Kaila and her husband Fred have been married for 48 years this November. They have 3 grown children, 6 grandchildren, and 2 dogs.  In her spare time she enjoys gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling/sightseeing, and volunteering. Kaila is currently involved with the following: The Board of Christmas Cheer(for over 40 years), Hall County Historical Society, and a member of the Preceptor Kappa, a Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Kaila shared for those thinking about volunteering, that it is very worthwhile and you can get so much out of the experience. Kaila also said that she feels that it is a great way to meet and learn about people.

We would like to say Thank You Kaila for making a difference!

Project Everlast
 Legislative Days

Project Everlast had a blast Sunday March 8th & Monday March 9th in Lincoln for their annual Legislative Days. Five of our Project Everlast members attended and studied different potential bills that were currently being discussed for passing or denial by the Nebraska State Legislature. All day Sunday every bill that sparked an interest, the youth would research, discuss and put together a presentation to perform for the senators over a luncheon put on at the Capitol. Each member provided youth voice to the different topics the bills were discussing as well as provided reasons for supporting or opposing the bill. It was a wonderful experience to collaborate with the senators on important topics as well as watch the youth show such leadership and interest in our Legislature here in Nebraska.
Happy Birthday
