Haunted Helena

Don't miss Ellen Baumler presenting "Haunted Helena" Thursday, November 3rd at 6:30 pm in the Helena College Lecture Hall.
Helena was born of the gold rush, nurtured by the wealth of its financiers and raised on its political struggles. The lawless gold camp and its vigilante hangings left an indelible imprint on the modern community. Restless spirits from Helena's turbulent past still linger around town.
Historian and award-winning author Ellen Baumler blends history with the supernatural as she expertly weaves the past with the present in a ghostly web. Firsthand accounts and historical records add credibility to these spooky but true tales. Explore the legacy of the hangman's tree and meet the ghosts of historic Last Chance Gulch. These stories and more bring to light the shadowy places in Helena where the past sometimes comes to life.
This lecture is free to the public. Call 447-6907 for more details.

What are your best memories from your time at Helena College?

Some of the best memories that I have at Helena College are the classes and the relationships that I made; between other students and professors as well at some great opportunities that came from these times.

What did you learn at Helena College that has most benefited your role/position?

Wow, well I was blessed to find a passion that I didn't know I had that came from a training offered at Helena College. I attended a QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer, Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training) and found that I could be a voice for suicide prevention. With that said, I founded Breathe "Let's start a conversation" a Suicide Prevention Resource and Research Center in Helena.

What would you say to a person considering enrolling at Helena College?

Attending Helena College has opened the door for so many opportunities for me that I would not have been able to cultivate as easy as I did. Some of the faculty and professors helped me to start hard conversations that I wouldn't of known how to start. By helping me find the information that I needed and taking the time to make sure that I was ready to address a tough issue, I owe a huge portion of my success in this field to Helena College faculty and professors.

I am thankful for the professors and faculty seeing something in me that I didn't see and helping me to find my potential. With much hard work and pushing me outside my comfort zone when it came to Mr. Lewis' writing class and Dr. Munn's and Mr. Peterson's psychology classes and challenging my thoughts, it showed me there was a bigger world out there. To grow we need to be challenged.
