Pastor's Letter

October 30, 2015

Dear Friends,
It is good to be back home. My pilgrimage to South Korea, with 30 other pastors and Bishop Cho, was amazing, soul-nourishing, and gave me much to reflect on. Thank you for your prayers of support. On November 22nd , between services I'll share more about this pilgrimage.
On returning, I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Charlotte Hughes and greatly disturbed to learn of the death of 4 youth from this area.   Our prayers continue for family and friends who are grieving.
This Sunday is All Saints' Sunday and, at both worship services, we will lift up the names of the saints who have gone onto the Church Eternal in this past year. These are people who loved us, taught us, inspired us, led us, and demonstrated a great love for God and God's people. We will reflect on "The DNA of a Saint" and will also receive Holy Communion.
Also, this Sunday, we will receive and consecrate your pledge cards. These signify the financial commitments people have made for 2016, as part of their support for God's work here at Buckhall.   At 12:30pm, following the 2nd service, we will celebrate with a pot-luck lunch. Please join us for good food and fellowship.
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday.   Please be in prayer and discernment for how God is calling you to serve in the mission and ministries at Buckhall UMC.
Yours in Christ,
Linda
PS The time changes Sunday - FALL Back and get an extra hour of sleep!

On Another Note.......

Worship Task Force Forming
As a part of the work we have been doing in understanding our mission field, its demographics, and how we best bless the people in our mission field (the area around our church), we are exploring the possibility of a different style of worship that would complement our existing traditional style. We will look at possibilities in style, times, and even days.   This task force will be a working group. If you are interested, please know that you will be asked to:
Attend at least 2 worship services of a different style in the Alexandria or Arlington districts and report on your findings.
Become familiar with the demographics/psychographics/life-style trends of our mission field - information will be provided and discussed.
Be in prayer for at least 10 minutes each day about our mission field and how God is calling us to be a blessing and to be open to the leading of God's spirit.
Participate in the task force meetings. Date and time will be chosen by task force members.
The work and recommendations of this task force will then be presented to the congregation and church leaders for their input. If interested, please contact Pastor Linda @ bumc.lmonroe@verizon.net.
