Helms estimates $125 Billion invested in ND's Oil Patch

A question Department of Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms was asked recently produced a number that has been raising eyebrows around the state, including those of Gov. Doug Burgum. The question was what has been the impact on North Dakota from the oil and gas industry. "I looked up a few numbers," Helms said, flashing a good-natured smile to a crowd gathered at a recent meeting of the Williston Basin Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute. Those numbers show a total of $125 billion invested within North Dakota's portion of the Bakken, Helms said, which works out to $1.8 million for every man, woman and child in the state. Williston Enplanements remain Steady

Enplanements at the Williston Airport continue to be about the same as last year. In August 2017 there were only 88 fewer passengers compared to the same time in 2016. Currently, commercial flights at Sloulin Field International Airport are at capacity; making growth difficult. Airport officials hope more commercial flights will be added in the spring.

Housing, two different insurance plans, discounts at seven store locations. These were among the perks that representatives of Six Shooters, which owns Outlaws in Williston and Watford City and Meadowlark in Sidney, mentioned to prospective employees at Williston's second of two annual job fairs on Wednesday. They weren't the only ones with housing and other perks. There were 60 employers with booths at the event - about 60 percent oilfield, 40 percent a cross section of other job sectors. Wenko to present at Oil Conference Sept. 26 in Grand Forks

Construction lags on Crosby Kids Daycare

The Crosby Kids Daycare still hasn't opened. Organizers hope that will happen in October. Crosby Journal

As difficult as it was to get funding for a new daycare facility, getting construction finished has been just as hard. Despite delays, "There's some good things happening," said Traci Lund, one of three members of the Crosby Kids Daycare building committee. Fingers crossed, the new center, on the site of the former Crosby Lanes, will be ready for occupancy in October. "I feel that can easily be accomplished," said Lund. Parshall School Board to seek New Bond Vote

The Parshall School Board will ask voters to support a referendum to fund a new high school again soon.
Members of the Parshall School Board decided to push ahead with a new vote on a referendum to fund a new high school building.  After the previous vote failed to reach a 60 percent level mandated by state law, the school board appointed two of its members as a subcommittee to work with EngTech to look at "the way forward." In order to  have the school completed by the start of the 2019 school year, a new vote must be scheduled no later than February. Read More

The Job Development Authority is hoping a big name company like Google will move servers into the pyramid. They say the concrete, underground space, and rural areas are ideal for data processing and security.
The Cavalier County Job Development Authority recently paid over $400,000 for part of the Stanley R. Mickelson Safeguard Complex in Nekoma, ND, but they don't plan to keep it all. "Well it's a little bit too big to keep the whole thing," said Shannon Duerr, Executive Director of the group. "Our vision is to have an interpretive center in one of the smaller buildings."
