GJEP Media Plans

In 2014, our Media Program will expand and update our New Voices on Climate Change Speakers' Bureau, bringing on new grassroots and front line voices representing struggles around the world. We will also find new avenues to promote the Speakers' Bureau, to give our participants even more opportunities to advance their important efforts.

We will continue our twice-weekly broadcasts on Pacifica Radio's Sojourner Truth show, and revamp our Climate Connections blog to make it even more dynamic and engaging.

Support these plans with a donation today.

We are gearing up for another year of work to advance our campaigns to stop the dangerous and destructive genetic engineering of trees, and to amplify the voices of those most impacted by environmental destruction through our media programs.

We could never do what we do without your crucial support. Every donation in every amount contributes to our continued success.

With this in mind, I would like to ask you to make a donation to Global Justice Ecology Project today and support our important work.

GE Trees 2014 Plans

The USDA is currently producing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on GE eucalyptus trees set for plantations across the Southern US. We are working to mobilize response during the upcoming public comment period. If the USDA approves GE eucalyptus, we will be prepared to challenge them.

In late February, we are holding a strategy meeting with youth activists and Indigenous representatives from around the Southeast to continue to build momentum and capacity for the grassroots GE trees effort in the region.

In June, we will hire an organizer in the region to ensure this grassroots effort succeeds.

In July, we will spend a week meeting with allies in the Pacific Northwest to build the campaign against GE trees there, as this region will likely be the next major GE tree hotspot.

In September, we will tour across the Gulf Coast states, where GE eucalyptus trees are planned.

Finally, we are working with Raindancer Films on a new documentary detailing the social and ecological impacts of GE trees.

GE Trees Accomplishments in 2013

In May 2013, we organized the largest ever protest against GE trees during the International Union of Forest Research Organization's bi-annual Tree Biotechnology Conference (Asheville, NC). The photo above shows the protest and growing security presence.

In September and October, we coordinated a Southeast regional organizing tour. To read about the repressive response of the University of Florida, click here.

In November of 2013 GJEP collaborated with the Center for Food Safety on an international strategy meeting on GE trees in Berkeley, CA. We then had a meeting of the new Steering Committee of the Campaign to STOP GE Trees, which includes representatives from North America, South America, and Europe including Indigenous Environmental Network, World Rainforest Movement, and Biofuelwatch, among others.
