Remmy with BoMF staff, volunteers and members

Remmy was 32 when he packed everything he owned and left his life in Brooklyn, NY for a new start and new job in Dallas. This Army Veteran arrived in Texas only to find out his new job had fallen through and he was now jobless and homeless. He turned to the Salvation Army homeless shelter for help and there he found Back on My Feet, which he credits for helping him turn his life around.

Remmy approached Back on My Feet with pride and the diligence that was instilled in him in the military and he maintained 100% attendance at every morning run. He quickly realized that it was being a part of the team, having that community of support, that structure, which was the missing link in getting his life back on track. He embraced the Next Steps phase of our program by taking computer literacy classes offered by Accenture and learned how to build a personal budget through the ACE Financial Literacy class.

"The physical side of running I can do, but the mental side of it, the emotional side of it, is what I was missing. That camaraderie, that being a part of something meaningful. That's what I was missing."

In February 2016, Remmy entered back in the workforce with a full-time job in HVAC! He also moved into his own apartment and keeps running with Back on My Feet a priority, even as an alumni member. Remmy also trained with our local running partner, Luke's Locker, for this year's Dallas Marathon, where he ran his first half-marathon sporting his team Back on My Feet shirt!

Your generosity in supporting Back on My Feet has made stories like Remmy's possible.  There are still so many individuals and their families right here in our community that need a small hand up to move their lives forward.

With your donation of $50, we can buy the new pair of shoes that will get someone like Remmy on the road to sustainability. A donation of $100 can purchase a new driver's license often essential for employment. A donation of $250 can help towards the course fees that can kick start a member's new career. $1,000 can help with the security deposit needed to get someone out of the shelter and into their own home. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated.

Members like Remmy work so hard to complete our program. Without support from heroes like you, we would not be able to offer this program.  Without essential employment and housing resources provided by the Next Steps phase of our program, many families would still be fragmented and many individuals would still be living in shelters or on the streets.

Please, click here to make your donation now . Hundreds of others like Remmy need a hero to give them a hand up.

Thank you and happy holidays to you and yours,
Gina, Stephanie and Jackie- BoMF Staff
