Good
afternoon sir/ma'am:
Over
the last few years, the CMENC (Collegiate Music Educators National
Chapter) at FAMU has gone to the Midwest Band and Orchestra
Conference. They have enjoyed their experience with learning more
about their craft, networking with others in the music profession,
and honing their skills in preparation for being top notch
musicians and directors like our own Dr. William P. Foster
(RIP), and members of the FAMU Band Staff, along with other music
educators across the country.
Through
donations from the alumni band members, we have been able to give a
donation to them to help defray their costs to attend the
conference. One year we gave them $500, and last year we paid for
one of their meals (another $500).
I
would like for us to raise $2,000 for them through alumni band and
friends' donations.
Their
costs total in excess of $17,000, but I am asking that we
contribute at least $25 to help this cause. If you are a graduate
of the FAMU Department of Music, we are asking that you give at
least $50 to help those students who strive to be as successful as
you are.
I
would like to make a presentation to the group at the beginning of
December, and am asking that you please donate by no later than
Sunday, December 5. We will apply your donations towards their
expenses. Of course, your donation is tax-deductible through the
Association, so let's give as a group to the FAMU Chapter, and show
them how much we support them in their efforts. I am donating $50
to the cause, so that leaves us with just $1,950 left!
To
my Board members, I'm challenging you to give $50 towards this
cause, as well as the Life Members of the Association, members of
Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Mu Alpha, and Sigma Alpha
Iota!
I
know that we'll raise the money for them. Question is, how quickly?
Send in your donations TODAY! Go to this link and click on the CMENC donation tab.
You can either
donate directly to the Music Department (information is below), or
you can contribute through the Association. Either way, just
contribute!
Thanks in advance
for your donation!

TO:
Alumni and Friends of the
Florida A&M University Music Department
FROM: Dr. Shelby R. Chipman, Associate Director of Bands
&
Advisor, Collegiate Music Educators National Chapter
SUBJECT: Mid-West Band & Orchestra Conference Support
On behalf of the Department of Music at Florida A&M University,
I certainly hope that life has blessed you in the best of health.
This letter comes to request your support in our efforts to send 50
students who are members of the Collegiate Music Educators National
Conference (CMENC) Chapter at Florida A&M
University to Chicago, Illinois for the Midwest Band and Orchestra
Clinic. This
clinic is scheduled during the week of December 15-21,
2008. It
serves as an opportunity for
our music students to gain valuable knowledge by attending clinics
and workshops. This will also give them an opportunity to meet
with other Collegiate Chapters and discuss issues, exchange ideas
and concepts
that could foster effective techniques and resources used
in Music Education. More significant this year, the late
Dr.
William P. Foster will be recognized with the Mid-West Band
Clinic
Medallion of Distinction, which is one of the highest awards an
individual in the field of music can receive. We would like
our
students to be in attendance to support his family who will
accept
this award and many former students who will be present.
We are asking all graduates and friends of Florida A&M
University for a $25.00 donation towards this endeavor. The
students are currently involved in fund raising efforts to help
off-set expenses which total $17,500 for the entire weekend, (see
attached). Please make checks payable to Florida A&M
University. If possible, we are asking for your support by
November 19, 2010.
Again, we thank you for your outstanding support to this great
University in the past, as well as in the future. We look forward
to seeing those of you who will be attending this year's
conference. It is our hope that you have continued success.
Make donation check payable to: FAMU CMENC. For additional
information regarding our chapter, please contact me @

MENC (Music Educators National Conference)
Music Educators National Conference serves as a governing body with
all music activities and provides resourceful assistance for music
educators teaching students on all levels.
The purpose of the trip is to provide an opportunity for our
students to gain valuable knowledge by attending clinics and
workshops. This will also give them an opportunity to meet other
collegiate chapters and discuss issues related to the music
profession.
The Midwest
Clinic
The Midwest Clinic exists for educational purposes exclusively; to
raise the standards of music education; to improve the methods
employed in music education; to develop new teaching techniques; to
disseminate to school music teachers, directors, supervisors, and
others interested in music education information to assist in their
professional work; to examine, analyze and
appraise literature dealing with music; to hold clinics, lectures,
and demonstrations for the betterment of music education; and in
general, to assist teachers and others interested in music
education in better pursuing their profession.
We have currently been involved in fundraising activities, i.e.,
car washes, raffle ticket sales, donation drive, cookie sales, and
other various local fundraising opportunities equaling
approximately $2,000.
