Downtown Yoga Shala

It's First Light and We are Setting Sail...

Good Morning! The night sky has cleared quite a bit since the our last newsletter 30 days ago. An unexpected gust of wind caused an upheaval, and we needed some time to assess our situation. Today, we have charted a new course. We are moving forward in a new direction, all the while knowing that abandoning ship was never an option.

Understandably, there is deep sadness over an inevitable, impending departure from our current space as we know it today. But Downtown Yoga Shala is more than a space ... it is also a solid business entity and beyond that, an organically evolving community with a vision, intention, mission and purpose for being. We will continue to live and breathe as such, allowing a phase for rest and recovery, rebuilding and restoration, in order to re-emerge at a place where we are meant to be.

While much more has yet to unfold, what we do know now brings continuity and stability to our course. We are moving to a temporary location on Nov 15th (across the street at 467 S. First) with a slightly modified class schedule while waiting for the new permanent space to be completed, likely by early 2018. (See Schedule Announcements, below).

Please know that there is more to this news than meets the eye. Much has to be done, and there is a dedicated crew and a greater community beyond our yoga community working behind the scenes, conscientiously navigating the path to our "new home". Thank you to many of you who have voiced your unequivocal support, confidence and trust, and enthusiastically signed up to come along on the journey, fully aware that we may encounter some choppy waters on the way to our next harbor.

Together we embark on a voyage to a destination that holds a promising future for our Downtown Yoga Shala community. We sail with favorable winds at our back, having adjusted our sails, and are on course to fertile shores.
"Sail Away. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain

We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails".  - Bertha Calloway

Yoga Self Portraits & Nature Inspired Art by Nadia Nasiri
Downtown Yoga Shala is proud to present featured artist Nadia Nasiri, a promising self-taught photographer and avid yoga practitioner. The exhibit focuses on yoga self portraits taken with a tripod as Nadia highlights her journey during her various travel adventures. Known to take her yoga 'off the mat,' this series will also include nature inspired photographs and artwork. Nadia's intention with sharing her art is to inspire others to cultivate an appreciation for the natural world and invoke an interest in yoga and travel. Join us for South First Friday Art Walk to meet the artist as she raises funds for her next trip!

Also featured this month is devotional artist Jennifer Mazzucco who will be showcasing her yoga inspired paintings, carvings, and clothing! Both Jennifer and Nadia will be raffling off artwork and goodies to benefit victims of the Northern California Fires.

Come take Sheetal's Vinyasa Flow class at 5:30-6:45pm, then stay for the Art Walk, as we open our doors to the art patrons and downtown community from 7-10pm. Join us!
Also!! Come sample and get introduced to essential oils with Nikki, who will share how they can be used to support a wide range of emotional, mental and physical wellness concerns. Please click HERE for details.
