President's Letter
The October President’s message focused on our Bar Association’s pro bono initiatives. As I reflected on all that our Association and its members have done and continue to do as related to pro bono, I was reminded of a statistic that I heard long ago when I first began to volunteer and get involved in community service: lawyers as a profession donate more time, talents, and treasures than any other profession, often more than other professions combined. Fastcase Tip-of-the-Month
There is no doubt that having a mobile device means improved work-flow and accessibility, regardless of your location. Need to visit a client? An attorney can whip out a smartphone and check messages or send emails. On a plane to a deposition? A paralegal’s laptop fits on the tray table for uninterrupted time to proofread that brief. Waiting to pick up a child from an afterschool activity? Why not sneak in some research time on a tablet. According to the American Bar Association (ABA) 2015 Legal Technology Survey, “The mobile device most used by lawyers remains the smartphone (90%), followed by the laptop (79%), and the tablet (… 49%).”
Why bring this up? In addition to the FREE access that the Akron Bar Association provides to Fastcase Legal Research, members also have access to the free Fastcase Mobile App. Available on Apple, Windows phone, and Android devices, the App allows users to access Fastcase anywhere there is Internet access. You can easily link your member benefit to the Mobile App by clicking on Options > Mobile Sync on Fastcase.
