Brest Students in Denver for

Annual Summer Exchange

The Brest Committee has welcomed Brest students to Denver for the summer for the last 4 years. The students are between the age of 15 to 18 and are carefully selected by a Committee in Brest. This homestay experience for students has been enriching, eye-opening and unforgettable. The host families have been delighted as the visiting student shares French culture, language, and traditions with all the members of the family -- while creating a lasting relationship across the ocean.

Thanks to all who participated in DSCI's first Global Exchange, featuring Mayor Michael B. Hancock as keynote speaker and to the wonderful panel led by City Councilman Albus Brooks.

Denver and Takayama celebrate 55 years as Sister Cities!

Denver and Takayama celebrated their 55-ye ar relationship as Sister Cities last week when a delegation of 38 people, including T aka yama
Mayor Michihiro Kunishima, arrived in Denver on July 1st - 2nd.

Thursday, July 2nd, a formal event feted the 55th anniversary at the Wellshire Event Center. Guests enjoyed food, an official ceremony honoring the relationship, and entertainment, including a kimono fashion show, clarinet and flute ensembles, folk band "Take 3"  led by Board President Michael Frank, and an old- fashioned sing-a-long!
Friday, July 3rd, the visitors and Takayama committee members enjoyed an informal potluck at the home of long-time member Kimiko Side.
Saturday, July 4th, some of the visiting delegation carried on the tradition of participating in the annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival, entertaining crowds with kimono fashion show and a special performance by a flute ensemble.
Denver, Colorado and Takayama, Japan, have been Sister Cities since 1960. This sisterhood has  spawned exchanges of high school students, musical groups, artists, doctors, and other travelers.
This year, the 55th anniversary of the relationship is being celebrated with two parties: one we just held here in Denver at the Wellshire on July 2, and the second part to be held in Takayama at the end of our trip to Japan in October. To join up on the party trip, visit our trip website here.
