The Party Train to Takayama has Returned

The Takayama committee had a wonderful trip to Japan Oct. 15-25, seeing new places like Sado Island (rode the tub-boats), Kanazawa (visit the Kenrokuen garden), getting to know some of our members
better, learning more about Takayama / Japanese culture (for example, the 'medeta' song is unique to Takayama, and it signals the transition to the less formal portion of the evening), and deepening our friendship with people in Takayama.

You can see the story in words and pictures  here .

CUERNAVACA -- OUR SISTER CITY TO THE SOUTH

The Palace of Cortez
After several years of dormancy, we're excited to be reviving our Sisterhood with Cuernavaca, Mexico -- the City of Eternal Spring. Board member Jim Aubrey and Executive Director Beth Hendrix met with officials from the state university, an ecological foundation working to clean up a beautiful ravine that runs through the center of town, and parks administration to discuss partnered programming.  We were greeted with absolute graciousness by Mayor Barud and members of his administration and were treated to the wonders of the region. Cuernavaca is a beautiful city, full of statues, flowers, and history.

Too many friends to name! Front row is Karla Jaramillo (incoming City Council member), Beth Hendrix, Cuernavaca Mayor Jorge Morales Barud, Jim Aubrey, and Cesar Salgado of the Cuernavaca Tourism Office.
In early 2016,  Denver Sister Cities will be assembling a committee of interested people to continue this important and exciting work. If you'd like to take part in creating cultural, educational, and economic programming with our Mexican Sister City, please email cuernavaca@denversistercities.org.
We're grateful that so many are committed to this partnership, both in Denver and in Cuernavaca, and look forward to further strengthening ties with our friends south of the border.
