Spotlight Story: Horseshoe Pitching in Whitewood a Success!
The Whitewood Horseshoe Club and Horseshoe Saskatchewan hosted the
2018 Canadian Horseshoe Pitching Championships from August 15-18, 2018 in Whitewood! Volunteer club member president, Ken White, reported the event was a huge success for their small town.
“We had a total of 88 throwers, ages raging from 17 years of age to 98 years, and 130 people attended our supper banquet. There were people from all over Canada that came to watch and participate in the event. There were three (3) draws per day and five (5) games in each draw,” explains White. “The event helped our local club by sparking more interest in the sport and it brought tourism to our community.”
The whole town came together to prepare for the championship event that took place in the Whitewood Community Centre (rink). People donated their skid-steer loaders, and what would normally take a couple of days to set up pits and put sand in them, took only a few hours.
Horseshoe pitching has a long tradition in Canada. Most of the organizations (local, provincial and national levels) were formed in the 1920's. There are currently 11 clubs in the province affiliated with Horseshoe Saskatchewan.
The community of Whitewood is no rookie at hosting other large events. The top Saskatchewan men’s curling teams from across the province will hit the ice February 6-10, 2019 in Whitewood for the 2019 SaskTel Tankard Men’s Provincial Curling Championship!

Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan
How will you make reconciliation part of your day-to-day life?
Chief Joseph often speaks to the need for all of us to create a Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan to always carry with us. A Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan is a starting point for individuals to think about how to make reconciliation part of their lives. It is designed to be:
• Portable – Carry your Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan with you. Refer to it often.
• Shareable – Spread the word! Let the world know how you’re delivering change. Take a photo of your Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan to share on social media. Use the hashtag #namwayut.
The Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan is part of Reconciliation Canada’s national engagement strategy to build a national narrative on reconciliation and catalyze action. Your Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan will contribute to the national narrative on reconciliation by illustrating the ways that Canadians are taking action. By sharing your Back Pocket Reconciliation Action Plan, you are inspiring others to think about reconciliation and to create their own plans.

Saskatchewan Nonprofit Organizations Research Survey
Insightrix was commissioned by the Saskatchewan Nonprofit Organizations to conduct the SNP Research Survey in the summer of 2017 which saw 1,643 respondents. This survey helps profile the scope of the nonprofit sector and its contributions to our province through gathering insights into the diversity of nonprofit organizations in the province, the employee and volunteer workforce that supports nonprofit operations, finances, the top challenges experienced by nonprofit organizations, and understanding the changing circumstances experienced by Saskatchewan nonprofits.
The infographic is the first in a series to be released. Keep connected with SNP as we continue to work with the research data over the next weeks and months to create and share a series of mini reports.

Play More Sports: The Importance of a Multi-sport Approach
When kids specialize early in one sport they miss out on important movement skills and many get injured, burnout, or quit. That’s why top athletes and sports experts are saying the same thing:
Let kids play as many sports as possible. This website features a video featuring prominent Canadian elite athletes who grew up playing multiple sports, as well as essential links for educating parents and coaches on the multi-sport advantage.
A few of the bigger sport organizations have created a
public service announcement highlighting the benefits of multi-sport participation. And of course,
Active for Life continues to promote multi-sport to parents.
