Southeast Connection's 2018 Unselfie Campaign - Recognize Volunteers in your Community!
Why an Unselfie Campaign? What is it?
A fun and interactive way to get everyone involved in recognizing individuals and organizations who make a difference every day in our communities. Statistics show that the number one way volunteers like to recognized is a simple thank you and knowing their contribution makes a difference.

How does a community leader or group get involved? (what do they have to do? - steps)
  • The unselfie campaign is simple and easy for everyone to do!
  • Use our laminated unselfie template, snap a photo and post on social media.
  • Bring the laminated template to your next board meeting, committee meeting or town event and get everyone involved in sharing their passion!
  • Contact Tara Heslip at 306.695.2005 for more information!

Benefits of being involved in the campaign? (impact for volunteers and the community)
  • It doesn’t get much easier than this, a great way to recognize your volunteers!
  • Gives your organization exposure with in your community and beyond.
  • Joy, gratitude, thankfulness and goodwill are all created through this simple act of acknowledgement

Community Testimonial from 2017 Unselfie Campaign: "And thank you for the laminated Volunteer Star poster – as you can see, I have been using it well! I have had such incredible feedback about this initiative – not only is it a wonderful way to give recognition, but it’s also great visibility for our organizations, showing everyone what makes our community!"
2018 National Volunteer Week
Check out this volunteer blog from Volunteer Match!

And get ready for National Volunteer Week: April 15-21, 2018. Learn more about the 2018 Campaign Kit! The documents in this campaign kit are meant to help guide you in planning, promoting and executing volunteer appreciation events that are successful.

Feel free to adapt them to the needs of your organization in order to create the most rewarding and meaningful campaign for your volunteers. Because ultimately, that is the goal of National Volunteer Week; celebrating and appreciating the value of the volunteers that contribute so much to our communities.
2018 Annual General Meeting & Board Nominations
Southeast Connection will be hosting its annual general meeting on May 31, 2018. Save the date! In May of this year, new Board Directors will be appointed to the Board of Directors of the Southeast Connection Sport, Culture & Recreation District. As part of the ongoing growth of Southeast Connection, volunteers for the Board are drawn from across the District. We are requesting your community to give serious consideration to nominate an individual for a board position. A number of two (2) year board terms will be available beginning in May 2018.

The next several years promise to be exciting ones for Southeast Connection. The organization will continue to have a positive impact on the communities we serve. The Board of Directors will play a central role in this important work. A primary responsibility of board directors is to participate in the development of policy and major decision-making at board meetings held at least four (4) times per year. Another key responsibility is to be active on an ongoing basis in a committee of the board.

Please begin the search for candidates from your community to assist in the leadership and development of sport, culture and recreation. The strength of Southeast Connection depends on the candidates put forward.

Inquiries can be directed to Joni Hagen, Executive Director, at 306.842.2188.

March 21 Campaign: Show Racism the Door and #MarchOutRacism
March 21st is designated by the United Nations (UN) as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It’s a day observed all around the world to focus attention on the problems of racism and the need to promote racial harmony. About the Campaign
Build Your Best Day
In 2016, the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth were released. The first of their kind in the world, the guidelines outline what a healthy 24-hour period looks like for children and youth.

To bring the guidelines to life, ParticipACTION and their partners developed BuildYourBestDay.com - a fun, interactive and educational tool to help children and youth aged 5-17 and their parents learn about the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines. The digital experience allows kids to choose from a variety of whimsical and real-life activities to build their best day and understand how much Sweating, Stepping, Sleeping and Sitting they need each day to be healthy.

ParticipACTION needs your help to spread word! Please visit the site and help them share how this new and engaging website can help kids learn what makes a healthy day. Even better, please consider doing one of these things to help them make others aware:
• Share Build Your Best Day in your e-communications
• Use the social media kit to share on your channels
• Post one of the posters
Share Your Story!

We would like to feature a monthly story about one of our communities, volunteers, recreation directors or a local event taking place in the Southeast District. Sharing these stories and tips will help build bridges and link communities together in our district, so we can learn from each other and highlight and recognize what we are doing well.
We are proud of what we do and where we live and we know you are too!
Send your stories, highlights and information in monthly to Joni Hagen, Executive Director, at jhagen@southeastconnection.ca and you may be featured in our next Get the Scoop!

The deadline is the 1st day of every month.
