Rankings Newsletter
Issue: #8
May 2015

This is the second newsletter including two features (Ranked Athlete Spotlight and Meet Results in Rankings) based on your feedback, requests and suggestions. Please continue to make suggestions, requests and comments as well as completing the survey. This is your site and I try to implement all the improvements / features you want.

The rankings home page now includes a snapshot of 12 random results from meets that were updated in the rankings over the past 3 days.  You can click on the result to view all the results from that meet that are in the rankings - remember that most of the text on the website are links.

Ranked Athlete Spotlight
Vicki Fox, USA

Vicki began running as a fitness challenge in 2010 at the age of 51.  It was perhaps a late introduction to track and field, but she quickly fell in love with the sport and discovered a passion for the challenge and comradery of competition. Vicki has since devoted much of her free time to exploring new events and now trains as a multi-event athlete.  Her 2014 indoor and outdoor seasons included solid performances and rankings (see her results) in track events from the 55 to 3000 meters plus long jump and javelin putting her in contention for the 2014 Best Ranked North American Athlete Award.  Congratulations to Vicki on a fantastic 2014 season, and we wish you much success exceeding your goals in 2015.

Do you want to meet and discuss rankings?

Hope to make it to Lyon to meet with you and discuss how to make this better for you plus meet with national representatives and discuss how they and I can collaborate and make these rankings accurate, all-inclusive and have up-to-date performances. Do you think I should travel to Lyon? Can you help with arrangements to make this happen? Email or call me.

Best Ranked Awards

The trophies are designed!  These nice crystal trophies and a cash award await winners from each continent plus the best world ranked athlete. We just need reasonably complete rankings lists and a fair scoring system. You can help complete the rankings lists by emailing me links to complete meet results or the meet results file. Anyone good with statistics can contact me regarding the proposed scoring concept outlined on the Best Ranked Masters Athlete Award page

Help the rankings site
Eliminate errors & increase awareness
There are errors with duplicate listings, misspellings, wrong ages, incorrect performances
and more. It is okay to tell me about them. Sometimes it is the only way these errors will get corrected. Please let me know so I can correct!

You can help increase awareness by clicking on Share below the Facebook posts I make each time I insert complete meet results. Please share on interested group and friends' pages.

Pictures are GREAT!
Wow, what an overwhelming response to my request for pictures!  Thank you to everyone for sending them and sharing your stories.  I loved them all.  Please keep sending pictures (and include photo credit) - you can never have enough.

A special thank you to new collaborators Dan in Romania and several South Africans. Your help is invaluable for making this site what it is meant to be.

Sincerely,
John Seto

Coming Next Month
  • Another Ranked Athlete Spotlight - I will select another athlete who has a noteworthy rankings story in a few weeks and always appreciate suggestions and help!
  • Progress with the Best Ranked Awards will be made. Hope I can finalize the award points system and post a leader board next month. North American Rankings lists are reasonably accurate for 2013 & 2014 awards candidates so maybe these awards may be given shortly.
  • Progress with the tools that facilitate having more performances inserted into the rankings lists.
