What's up, Buttercup?

This year continues to prove to be a busy one for this Gubler family.  In August our youngest came home for a visit just before her second year of college at BYUI began.  While she was here we got to go up to Crossville, TN to see the solar eclipse, and I have to say that first of all, it was way more entertaining than I thought it was going to be, and second it was SO pleasant to have my social media feed full excited and happy people focused on that one event all day!  We sent our newlywed daughter off to Utah for their new adventures as they begin school and their life together.  I got to go to a wonderful quilt retreat, and the fun part was I got to teach how to use Creative Grids log cabin and pineapple tools.  Everyone picked their tool and their pattern, so most everyone was working on something totally different.  I LOVED IT!  I need to write a blog post about it.  Anyway, all of that happened in one week.  The next week we flew out to Utah to visit another daughter who gave birth to her third baby, a sweet girl named Murphy!  I felt honored that she asked me to stay with her, so I was there for two weeks with them, and I miss them badly now.  I've been home for a week, and at the end of this week will be headed up for grandparent duty in Tennessee with three adorable littles as our daughter and her husband go on a fun weekend trip.  A week after I get home from there, I'll head back up to TN again, but this time for The Green Apricot Getaway.  When I get home from that I should be able to stay unpacked and in town until Thanksgiving.  But you never know.

So, The Green Apricot calendar has been a bit sparse here lately, and the blog is on life support, but all is well.  Keep reading for info on upcoming events in the studio, and I look forward to seeing you!

(P.S.- If you are holding membership hours that show an expiration date after May 31, 2017, you may still use them through May 31, 2018.  Watch for events that can use your hours- some are listed below!)
Palettes to Points: Quilt Design
with Lee Monroe of May Chappell

If you ever wanted to learn about the nitty gritty of quilt design, this is your chance to learn from a pro. We'll begin with a color theory dinner lecture and trunk show, then spend two days in the studio working on designing and creating your own signature block.
Plan on going home with a block that you can either finish off as a mini or a pillow, or plow on to make a complete quilt of your own original design.

Oct 26-28, $260. Includes 2 1/2 days of lecture and hands-on instruction as well as dinner on Thursday
and lunch on both Friday and Saturday.

Understanding the Rainbow
with Lee Monroe of May Chappell

Can't make it to the full 2 1/2 day event "Palettes to Points"?  You have options...  Maybe you'd like to just attend the dinner lecture and trunk show on color theory- that's an option!  Click below for more information on the lecture, and to register.

Take your pick of one of these two patterns from May Chappell, and learn from the designer herself!  "Clutched" is the larger of the two kiss-lock bags, and "Cased" is just right for everything from Stabilo markers to crochet hooks.  Both make awesome gifts, and who wouldn't love to receive one of these!  I mean these days, zippy bags are a dime-a-dozen, but a kiss-lock clutch?  That's the stuff!

Quick Curve Ruler- Pick Your Pattern!

I really love the Quick Curve and Quick Curve Mini rulers from Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I especially love that they continue to release so many supportive patterns for the tools, and that they are not repetitive!  If any of you have seen any of my guild presentations on tools, you know that I really don't like one night stands.  I want a tool that is versatile, and that will offer real bang for my buck.  These are those kinds of tools.  And, because the method is the same, regardless of the pattern, we can have a workshop based on using the tool, and you can do whatever pattern you want!  You have choices, my friend!  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

WIP Week and Food Drive!

The time is coming for our biannual WIP Week and Food Drive, so mark your calendars!  This is the week to focus on your Works In Progress that need your attention!  For five days from 9am to 4pm you have free reign of the studio, or at least free reign of your spot in the studio!  You don't have to sweep the floor.  You don't have to change over the laundry.  You don't have to answer the door.  You can just sew until your heart's content.  And the best part?  You can support our local food bank at the same time.  Twelve pounds of donated food per day of sewing- that's all it takes!  I'll take our donations over to Helping in His Name when the week is up, and it will be just in time to fill winter needs in our area.  Our donation last winter was amazing- 468 lbs of food.  In the spring it wasn't as much as I had hoped for- only 319 lbs.  Let's see if we can't hit the 500 lb mark this time!  Even if you can't come to sew, will you consider donating?  You could donate the same amount of food for sewing at home as you would if you were in the studio.  Just an idea!  Click below to register if you plan on coming and hanging out with me for the week.  It'll be a good time!

Changes to the Studio...

-The studio is open for limited events.  It is possible to reserve the facility for your personal retreat or event.
-Membership hours will not be available for sale after May 31, 2017. Membership hours will still be valid for events and workshops taught by me through May 31, 2018.  They are not usually available for use with guest teachers.
-Monthly Membership has been discontinued.  It was a nice idea, but a non-starter, as they say.

What you will notice is that there are fewer events available each month, and after May 31, 2018, all events will have a flat fee.  To see a schedule of currently planned events, you can always check the calendar by clicking here.  I will still send emails that will also have info, but the best way to keep up on what's happening is to follow @thegreenapricot on Instagram or The Green Apricot on Facebook.
Directions to the studio- Take exit 216 off of I-75 in McDonough.  Head west on GA Highway 155.  Go about 2 miles, then turn left onto Meredith Park Drive.  Turn into the first drive on the right.  The studio is located in the building right in front of you, inside All Automotive Repair's offices.
