August 22: Deadline to sign-up for an appointment for a developmental screening if you have a child who is from 3 to 5 years old and who may have posible delays in the following areas: Speech, Language, Concepts, Motor Skills, Self Help Skills, Social Emotional, Vision or Hearing. August 25: Dedication ceremony, 12 - 12:30 p.m., Boise High School Braves Athletic Complex. While not part of the 2017 Bond, the Braves Athletic Complex is a significant investment in Boise High’s students. It contains two regulation soccer fields, a junior varsity softball field, and a junior high and sub-varsity football field that are also being used for varsity football practice. The new parking lot and field house will be ready by late August. News media representatives and public are invited to dedication ceremony.

August 27: A forum to introduce candidates for the Boise School Board will be sponsored by the Boise Schools Education Foundation and will be held in the Board Room of the Boise School District’s Service Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise on August 27, 2018 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Public is invited to attend. Boise School District 2018 Trustee Election information.
August 28: Dedication ceremony for Derhyl A. Dennis Career & Technical Education Center Addition, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 3324 S. Pro Tech Drive, Boise. This 2017 bond supported project is the result of working closely with industry representatives in identifying the need for upgrading and expanding job training programs at the Center to help students better prepare for future postsecondary and career success. August 29: Dedication ceremony for Timberlne High School Classroom Addition, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 701 E. Boise Ave., Boise. This 2017 bond supported project will provide modern science labs and art classrooms that better meet the educational needs of students and staff members. News media representatives and public are invited to dedication ceremony.
August 30: Dedication ceremony for new Amity Elementary School, 10000 W. Amity Rd., Boise. This 2017 bond supported project, will provide a new modern educational facility to better serve the needs of our students, staff members and our school community.   News media representatives and public are invited to dedication ceremony.
September 3: Labor Day - No school for students in Boise School District (K-12).
September 4: Boise School District Trustee Election. Polls are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

District Students Named College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship Winners: The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced the names of about 550 additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities. These Merit Scholar designees join approximately 3,500 other college-sponsored award recipients nationwide who were announced in June.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Award: Boise School & Nutrition Services has beenawarded over $310,000 in USDA Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program grant funds for 14 elementary schools for the 2018-2019 school year. The goals of this nutrition and education program are to expand the variety of fresh fruits and vegetables students experience, increase students' fruits and vegetables consumption, and have a positive impact on students' present and future health. Congratulations to the following schools: Garfield, Grace Jordan, Hawthorne, Hillcrest, Horizon, Jefferson, Koelsch, Lowell, Morley Nelson, Mountain View, Owyhee, Whitney, Whittier and Taft elementaries. 
Boise School District Educator Named State History Teacher of the Year: Maple Grove Elementary School 4/5th Grade Teacher Kelly Holder (pictured) has been named the 2018 History Teacher of the Year for the state of Idaho. As a recipient of this award, Ms. Holder receives $1,000, a ceremony in her honor, and she becomes a candidate for the National History Teacher of the Year Award, announced in September 2018.
